I was looking through the old posts and noticed two where people were invited to submit their favorite quotations. How about we do that again? Here are some of my favorites.
"What we desire for ourselves, we wish for all." J.S. Woodsworth J.S. Woodsworth was a Canadian Member of Parliament in the 1930s, and a member of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), the predecessor of the New Democratic Party (NDP). This quotation is one of the reasons I stay active in politics. “My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.” Jack Layton Jack Layton was the leader of the federal NDP in Canada. He took the NDP from third party status to Official Opposition status in the in the May 2011 federal election. A few months later, he passed away after a battle with cancer. Woodsworth and Layton were both EVIL Canadian socialists. "You can't do only one thing." John W. Campbell's Law John W. Campbell was a science fiction writer and founder of the magazine now known as Analog. His "law" is sort of about the law of unintended consequences; Campbell was saying that every action has some kind of unintended consequence. One very creepy example of that is from a news item I came across a few years ago. Canadian cities were really cracking down on prostitution. The unintended consequence of that was it increased demand for child prostitutes because a 25-year-old undercover policewoman can pass for 18 but not 12. "If you don't vote, don't bitch." Steve Earle Steve Earle is the guy who did that song "Copperhead Road". His quotation is the other reason I stay active in politics. I feel that if I don't go out and do my part, I have no business complaining about election results. Okay, everybody; send in something that inspires you! |
