Default The federal marriage amendment: 2 sides on CSPAN

Last night there was a press conference with the "Alliance For Marriage" http://www.allianceformarriage.org/site/PageServer It actually played right before the CAP & CATO forum. The director of the AFM kept pulling this black woman into the picture... it was such an obvious ploy to use her to make their agenda look inclusive. What was even more telling was their inability to handle direct questions from the press. After avoiding giving answers to about six questions the AFM director closed the press conference. It was a clear defeat.

I couldn't find the actual video for that conference, so I've included a link to Bush's statement.

President Bush's statement...

AFTER the AFM press conference, The Center for American Progress & the CATO Institute hosted a panel forum on the amendment...

If you have the time, I STRONGLY encourage you to watch both video clips. I believe you will find any arguement for the amendment to be baseless, bigoted and simply an attempt to incite the masses to vote Repbulican.

Nate- Thanks for the C-Span link. Watched it last night. Best part for me was the analysis by Seidman who delved into the unseen ramifications of the law. It would have make marriages of all kinds civil unions in Mass. Now that the law was defeated in the Senate today it will remain to be seen just how this kind of political tactic will be used in the future. The panel clearly points out just how nefarious the proposed law was. It wasn't just about defining marriage, it was also about controlling the democratic procress itself by telling everyone they could not debate the issue of gay marriage at any point of time in the future. If that isn't theocratic thinking at work, I don't know what is.

An article from aol news.

http://articles.news.aol.com/news/ar...07034609990026

"The Republican leadership is asking us to spend time writing bigotry into the Constitution," said Sen. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, which legalized gay marriage in 2003. "A vote for it is a vote against civil unions, against domestic partnership, against all other efforts for states to treat gays and lesbians fairly under the law."

In response, Hatch fumed: "Does he really want to suggest that over half of the United States Senate is a crew of bigots?"
