Catholic author, C. Cunningham, I believe said it right when she said this about reviewing your seminal work that informs your faith, struggle and eventual commitment to the Justice Ministry you lead:
Mel White, author of Stranger at the Gate: To Be Gay and Christian in America and minister of justice for the MCC, pulls no punches when it comes to the Christian church. "The Christian church has become the enemy of God's children," he says. "They are the primary source of the anti-gay rhetoric. The churches are in a tremendous civil war over this issue. There are a lot of local congregations and a lot of local minister clergy types who are taking a stand against their denominations, but the denominations almost universally have condemned us, including the Episcopalians, although Grace Cathedral stands as a bulwark against it." Thank God for MCC, Soulforce and all those clergy who stand forsquare in opposition to the rightwing forces in mainline Christian denominations. |

Thank God for the United Church of Christ.
I used to have some reservations about it because of being a part of a very conservative denomination...But the more I look at it, the UCC has it "right on" in so many ways-- especially the acceptance of LGBT people. God bless the UCC!!! (sung to the tune of God bless the USA) -David |
