Default Hello from Phoenix...

My name is Beth, and I am new to the forum. Last week I went to Colorado Springs and marched on Saturday with Soulforce. What a great experience. I hope hearts and minds will be changed.

I grew up fundamentalist, so to hear the message that Soulforce brings has been very important to me.

I look forward to checking in on the forums and seeing what people have to say!

Default Hi Beth! Welcome!!!

A hearty welcome to ya Beth!

I'm also in the Phoenix area, so we're neighbors! Happy to have you on the forum, and delighted to have a literal neighbor to chat with here!

The march sounds wonderful, and I am kicking myself for not having gone. If it happens next year, I hope I will have the opportunity to participate.

Since you're in Phoenix, are you familiar with Arizona Together??

Well, welcome to our non-homophobic website, Beth. I hope you get to meet our wonderful people, and post now and then. And hey, remember, God loves us even when our religious beliefs change. If ya do get together with Zerbie, Watch Out Phoenix!

Peace and Love, Chris

Hey a fellow Phoenician! Yes, I am familiar with Arizona Together. I was just down there last night making phone calls for them. I'm going back Monday night for one of their trainings on their strategy and so forth for when we talk to voters. And you?

I Thought so!!!!!!!

We met each other at the office last night.

You were the first one there, I believe, and I walked in next and chatted with you for a while about being an English teacher before we started making phone calls. Yeah, I'm a major blabbermouth.

I've gone to a lot of trainings there, and it was really informative for me, as a political newbie, to learn about the Ballot Initiative Strategy Center (give that a google if ya like), and do the public speaker's training, etc. I learned a lot about this particular issue and feel really ready to address it and explain it to others.

Hey BruceChris, thanks for the cheers. I think Beth and I plus the other thousands of volunteers are ready to take Arizona by storm!!!! Send us good thoughts - we have a lot of work ahead of us!

An English teacher, and a blabbermouth. Truely a match made in heaven!

wow - a chance meeting in 3D - another Soulforce miracle!

Welcome, Beth. Hey I particularly like your tagline, as John Shelby Spong was one of the angels that brought me back to faith. I look forward to reading more of your posts.

Spong has helped bring me back as well. Although, I'm not sure that "back" is the right word for me because it is quite a different place than it used to be. I've read two books that made a big impact, and I may botch the titles since I don't have them sitting right here...The one about Living in Sin: A Bishop Rethinks Human Sexuality and the one about how the Bible has been misused--I think it's his newest one. I've begun Stranger at the Gate by Mel White, too, but have not finished.

Beth:

Rescuing the Bible from fundamentalism : a bishop rethinks the meaning of Scripture / John Shelby Spong.
Edition 1st ed.
BS511.2.S69 1991

And no, it's not his latest, he's still writing.

P.S. Check out Carter Heyward's books, she's awesome!

P&S, Chris

Hi Beth, I haven't read Living in Sin, but I must. I encourage you to read his memoirs, Here I Stand, which I found inspiring. I'm now reading Stealing Jesus by Bruce Bawer, on the recommendation of one of the SF posters (I think it was Keltic but I apologise if it was someone else, if s/he's reading this...), and it's terrific. Happy reading to you

Beth,

Welcome!! You and Z will make a great team - onward ladies! How fun that you got to meet and will be working together in your venture.

Stay cool in Phoenix (we've rivaled your temps here recently in Sac!). Looking forward to hearing more about you and your activities in the future!
