Default The Animal Count: Bunnies take the lead

Jenn and Tdogg, ya asked after the bunnies. Okay, so as to stop hijacking Keltic's thread with my inventory of plush cuties, we now have this thread to discuss the current official count. Walking around the house counting has been time consuming, as stuffies live in almost every room. And confusing, it's easy to count someone twice, or not at all. Anyway, as of this moment and since Jenn asked. . .

Bunnies: 34
Kitties (including lions, cheatahs, etc): 16
Puppies: 12
Bears:15
Dinosaurs/lizards/dragons: 7
Birds (including swans, owls, penguins etc): 8
Alligators: 2
Whales: 3
giraffes: 3
frogs/fish: 3
seals: 2
okapi: 1
beaver:1
mice:3
elephants: 3
unicorn: 1
chipmunk: 1
zebra: 1
deer:1
lamb:1
longhorn steer: 1
otter: 1
worm: 1

Okay, if I've added that up correctly that's 122 - which means I've either missed a few counting tonite, or else I counted some more than once the last time. But anyhoo - that's ballpark. . .

Hahah! Zerbie, I'm busy working my way through some of the recent literature that documents homosexuality in animals. Now I can check the books and let you know which of your plushy species are known to engage in same sex mating behavior.

Dash,
I'm very impressed with what you're writing on the UMC discussion boards lately. I, too, am trying to blog some more on UMC Bishop Whitaker's paper that starts to delve into nature/"creation" and seems to assert that gay people represent "imperfections and anomalies" that will be removed when creation is "reborn" at some point in the future.

My problem in trying to address all of this is confronting the fact that we are talking about mythic language in the bible. That is "heresy" to many Christians, but there are those of us who still take our bibles seriously, though not literally.

I'm sure the Bishop recognizes at some level that he is dealing with myth when he writes of "creation" and the "new creation." How do we challenge the heterosexism in his understanding of the myth without being challenged for disrespecting the Bible?

Talking Hey, Zerb:

Back when my sister was in her early 20's, she got put in the hospital after being hit by a Buick. So we piled her hospital bed high with stuffed animals (and brought her a Big Mac and a shake, and a small bottle of Bourbon on Christmas, but we needn't go into that). It must have worked, 'cause she came out of it O.K. -- Hey, gay or straight, those stuffed animals do the trick.

Thank you Steven.

I've been trying to approach the Bibilical text on conservative terms. What I find again and again, is that they don't really know what it says. They have an idea of what it says, which is often inflated with all sorts of spurious speculation and commentary.

The creation stories in Genesis are very short. It gives very little information, and a lot of people don't even get that little bit right. For example, one I've been in dialogue with seems to be saying that our understanding of good and evil came to us because God made us in His image. Clearly, however, the Genesis text says that Adam and Eve's eyes were opened to this knowledge when they disobediantly ate from the fruit of the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. According to the text, God didn't instill this capacity into us--we stole it.

Whatever they want to believe is fine, but I will insist that they use it consistently according to the methods they proudly claim.

It says what it says...nothing more, nothing less...just rarely what they think it says.

But back to the Plushies!

Lions: Gay!!!

Cheetahs: Gay!!!

Bears? You know it! Both Grizzly and Black.

Lizards? O..M..G They are SOOOO gay. (let me tell you about one all female species that reproduces asexually....and they STILL get it on with each other...even though they don't procreate that way! They just like them some lovin'!!!)

Swans are my current fav! The boys'll sometimes mate for life, and get one of their girlfriends to give them an egg, which they raise. Plus! They are more successful and raising their chicks to adulthood than the straight swan couples!!! Hahah!!!

You're familiar with penguins I'm sure, but there's also geese (gay), swallows (gay), parakeets (gay), gulls, herons, terns, gay, gay GAY!!!

Whales and dolphins got their gay on.

Giraffes go for the all male orgies!

Fish...gay. Seals...gay. Elephants...tonnes of gay!! Chipmunks, zebra, deer, sheep, cattle....all gay.

Actually, the Bighorn sheep live in separate communities for a great portion of the year...girls with girls, boys with boys. Well...those boys don't swear off sex during those months, let me tell you.

So, there you go. All things bright and beautiful!

Ooh boy you asked for it Dash!!

All our plushies have names, relationships, sexualities, etc. We have 2 lesbian bunnies (Strawberry and Blueberry), one gay boy bunny (Little Grey) and his bisexual male (Italian rabbit, and lyric tenor btw - named Riniglio) partner, they are raising a girl bunny (Iris - lyric soprano) who was born to the Alpha male and female bunnies (BunBun and Violet), that was agreed upon beforehand, so that Little Grey and Riniglio could be fathers. We also have a couple of bisexual female puppies (Alison and Zsa Zsa). One gay alligator (George) and one gay frog (Sam). The rest are basically straight.

Thanks for the count Zerb! But, I'm a little disappointed, no horses? Oh, by the way, horses are definitely a nice variety of straight, gay and bi. I personally owned the gayest horse I ever met. And my last one (and best one) was totally bisexual tho he was a bit femme himself. He would get all hot and bothered by just about any pretty boy or girl!

Z, you gotta yourself a nice stuffed horse, given my experience, go for the bi male, they are the best of friends! I see you have a unicorn (ouch!), but really, it's not a horse. I'm glad to see you have birds (yes Dash, I used to raise English show budgies, and they were definitely gay!).

I have a very few stuffed animals, horses and birds and a lovely purple bunny I got for my birthday last year from my sweetheart. The ears are made so i can move them to different positions. Definitely a gay boy bunny, but just beautiful and the sweetest ever. Another day, I'll talk about my Barbies....

OmiGOSH!!!! I never noticed that! We Have No Horses!!!!!! I will have to complain to hubby ASAP. (We also do NOT have a gazelle.) Will hafta put those two on the birthday wishlist. Amazing - no horses and I didn't catch that. Unicorns don't exactly count, you're right.

Barbies. . .we gotta PM about this!

Talking

Yes Barbies! My partner was initially horrified and simultaneously somewhat amused that she ended up with me when she was totally anti-Barbie. It's been very funny. She came to tolerate them when we all moved in, and eventually accept them (she has even shown friends the spare room where a few token excellent 'girls' reside). I'm hoping someday she can come to value the girls (and the few token "Kens") for their uniqueness and what they bring to the family!!

Definitely add a horsie!!

One animal that isn't gay - one of our cats, female "Kitty Mou". She is the biggest ho in the neighborhood. While she is spayed (thank goodness, I would be grandma constantly!), she does not hesitate to bring over everyone boy-catfriend she has in the area - at least four!!! Sometimes they hang out two at a time. It's shameful!! (...you go KM girl....)

Talking whoa... that's a lot of stuffing...

Which animal plushie is the largest?

I had to look up okapi on wikipedia:

"The okapi (Okapia johnstoni) is an unusual mammal of the Ituri Rainforest in central Africa. Although it bears striped markings reminiscent of the zebra, it is the only living close relative of the giraffe. The resemblance it bears to both the zebra and giraffe led some to believe it is a cross between the two, but despite the appearance of certain similarities, it is in fact not closely related to the zebra. Native just to the Ituri forests situated in the north east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, it was known only to the local people until 1901."

I had lesbian peach-faced lovebirds when I was younger. They liked to play airplane" very often and both laid (unfertilized, of course) eggs.

Yeah, we hadn't been familiar with Okapis either, met them at the San Diego Wild Animal Park. Beautiful creatures. Shy.

Since we already had a zebra/giraffe couple, it appeared reasonable to us that the okapi we found in the gift shop was their offspring.

Largest plushie here? It's a tie between the two King Carnivores.
Rama: the 3 foot long king lion, or Damien: the 3 foot tall T Rex.

Why is it that pointless little conversations can be the most interesting ones?

Nay. (neigh?) I know, I know, dumb pun! It's been a long day, that's my excuse.

I DID see a cute plush horse somewhere, I think it was on the website for Preferred Plush. Great toys! If you're in the market for cute plush toys, start there. But no, there have been NO new additions to the menagerie since this thread got started. Check again after my birthday. . .people have figured out that I like bunnies, so now, I keep getting new ones. . .no complaints 'bout that!

Talking Three new additions to the family

We just added three new "children" to our plush menagerie for my birthday:

2 soft beautiful horses (named Grane and Ross)
and a great big soft, bright bright green frog, yet to be named.

The house is looking very lived-in and cozy.

(How come the SF calendar doesn't show that it's my birthday?)
