Default Gay Men's Chorus Sings National Anthem at Major League Baseball Game

Thought I would post this, being a baseball fan and all. This is great!

Quote:
The Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, D.C., performed the national anthem before Tuesday night's Washington Nationals baseball game at RFK stadium. According to chorus members, their performance received a standing ovation—although the crowd in the stadium was probably already on its feet, as is customary when "The Star-Spangled Banner" is performed. Still, one member described his group's historic gig as "wildly successful." (The Advocate)
A Yahoo article from PlanetOut adds:

Quote:
The chorus is apparently the first ever gay group to be chosen for the honor at any professional sporting event in the United States.
Way back... it could be... it might be... it is!! A homorun!

Seriously though, this is good news as MLB games draw in thousands of fans. I hope the announcer clearly stated they were the Gay Men's Chorus.

Red face Who's on First?

It is indeed a wonderful thing, especially that all were received well...but I'm not sure who did it "first?"

The Chicago Gay Men's Chorus sang the National Anthem at Wrigley Field a few years back...and the Atlanta Gay Men's Chorus sang the National Anthem at Turner Field a few years ago (2002). The exact dates would be on their respective websites. Jeepers, the Advocate is usually not so sloppy with their research. We need some serious media reform in gaytown!

Singing with the AGMC at Turner Field was a very moving experience for me because it was only a few months after 9/11.

TJ,

What an awesome experience for you! Ok, so GMC isn't the first - that's good news too.

Default Sing On!

Sing On! Sing On! Sing On!

Revtj- I had no idea that you sang with AGMC! Good for you!

See! We really don't' bite baseball fans.

And the National Anthem is the not most user-friendly piece of music- just like the country: rangey and all over the map.

Freedom, like high notes, have to be reached for energetically.

Oh...did they get a homorarium?

Talking Add another word to the LGBT lexicon

...yes, I sang in Chicago while in seminary w/CGMC and several seasons here in Atlanta...I LOVE to collect cds of gay men's choruses...FYI -- San Francisco has a cd recording 'Q' that is one of the most moving pieces of music I've ever heard...and Naked Man has been recorded by several GMCs and is a must for any collection! Oh, and nobody can top (ahem, I mean beat....wait, no, I just mean do better than) Turtle Creek Chorale.

Ahhh, to THINK we live in a world where 'homorun' can be googled! Next thing ya know, CNN will use it and I'll be screaming at my TV "I KNOW THE GUY WHO MADE UP THAT WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
