Default Hi, my name is David

Just a little about myself. I am married to a woman whom i love dearly, i have a step daughter (who i lovingly refer to as my "unnatural" daughter), and a daughter with my wife.

I was in the military (Coast Guard and Navy), with very high security clearances ... a cryptolinguist in the Navy. But when i was in the CG, i was viewed by many as gay simply because of mannerisms ... nearly got my ass kicked out ... LONG before "don't ask, don't tell." Well, to make a long story short, i was raped in the CG ... so i believe in what is being done here, and i would support a study to see if there are more gay/lesbian rapes as opposed to straight rapes. Statistics anyone??

WELCOME DAVID!

Sorry to hear you had that happen. No statistics for you. But it sounds like you are happy and have a great life, and I'm glad you're here!

Hello David and welcome, fellow-Arizonan.

I'm awfully sorry to hear what was done to you.

I have NO clue where to find statistics on that subject. I don't know if it's been studied. I have observed that there are predators throughout the human race, in all populations, so I doubt there is a connection between sexual orientation and sexual power crimes and violations like that. People can be vicious and cruel, whatever group they belong to.

Let us know if you do find some stats. That would be interesting.

David,

Welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear your story. And though I hardly think anything I might say on the matter would be illuminating, a search regarding male rape revealed this, infomation you are probably already familiar with:

In addition:

MYTH: Men who rape other men are gay.

REALITY: Rape is not a crime about sexual orientation, sexuality, or sexual attraction. It is a crime about power, domination, humiliation and control. In fact, in the majority of male-male assaults, the perpetrator is a heterosexual male. A common scenario of male rape is that of a straight man raping a male who is or who is perceived to be gay. Other scenarios can include hazing or initiation rituals that involve sexual degradation, gang rapes by groups of men in order to dominate/humiliate the victim, and assaults in prison, hospital, or military settings.
A little more research reveals that Scarce's book has some limitations and I can find no figures on the web that speak to your question specifically. It seems that the standard view is that the sexuality of the perpertrator is not the issue per se. Statistically however, it seems that straight men account for the greater number of perpetrators, the reason being that there are more straight people than gay people in the world.

Just thinking here: you may find more information with someone the Gay Center here in NYC. There must certainly support groups and health professionals who specialize in this issue. I encourage you to keep digging until you find what you need.

Default Hello, David

Welcome to Soulforce. I am so sorry to hear of your experience in the CG, and your attack. Indeed, rape is a crime that is all about power and control, and how to exert that in one of the most violent ways imaginable over another human. After enduring the labelling that you did, assumed to be gay, which is another situation that is so shallow and ridiculous. Your family sounds completely awesome, and thank God that you have them all. Please come around often, and good luck in seeking the information that you are looking for. Peace be with you and yours, Vanessa
