Thumbs up Happy 'bout the small stuff

I *think* this is the right forum for posting about our individual steps in activism, right?

Anyhoo - I wound up a member of a brand new HRC subgroup operating on campus out here in AZ, and our first project is planning a rally against the "protect marriage" amendment which will be voted on in November. I just successfully completed my first responsibilty, and am feeling excited about it.

We wanted a clergy person to speak against the amendment at our rally, and the minister who married me to my husband 3 years ago just gave an enthusiastic yes when I asked him to speak for us! He also hosts a weekly radio program, and he just OFFERED us free radio publicity for the rally.

Cross your fingers everyone, that everything goes smoothly with the planning and all this comes to pass. And that the initiative gets defeated at the polls!!

Yerronnaroll!

Zerbie: I do seem to alternate between attempts at humor, and more thoughtful postings. But I would have to agree with NowVoy, tdogg, and Jenn that you deserve something more personal. We all support your social and political activism. I see you as having a LOT of love and energy, and a little bit of insecurity, now and then. We love you, we suport you, and we all think you're doing a wonderful job.

Peace, Love, and God's Grace upon you, Chris

Default Stands back and cheers

Well done! This is heading where you wanted to be, you big ol' activist you. I'm sure a minister will do well bringing a change of mind to some of the listeners... that's GREAT!

Default THanks for being so YOU!!!!!!!!!!

This sounds incredible, exciting, and at a level that feels good for you, which helps in making a full commitment to something, I think. Small really is not a significant factor, since I think anything anyone of us do on any given day, to speak out, open up, change a mind- is significant. You go, girl- I am proud of you. Peace and love always, Vanessa

Default Thank you everyone!

Thanks for all the cheers and support. Yay!!! And for all the hugs. Vanessa, ya know, when I feel like I can't do much, I remind myself that ya never know how each drop in the bucket adds up with all the others. When I'm losing motivation at tabling events and I don't wanna try anymore, I say to myself, Maybe the next person I talk to will get involved, maybe has a listserve of hundreds of people who s/he can persuade to vote our way, and if each of THOSE few hundred people tell just one other person, . . .Ya really don't know how the "ripples" spiral out there.

Default Thanks, guys..

Vanessa, you gave a great update!

I'm making a new thread about our action because I mentioned it on a couple different threads.

It was such an amazing experience to be a part of. I really encourage all of you to try to join the ones nearest you. I feel like I'm really refining who I am as a person through this activism.
