Talking Homphobia Sells Best if You've Got Some Big Secrets Kept

Interesting article about Rove & Co. Figuring out their homophobia is a family systems nightmare! Rove's dad gay? Ken Mehlman says no one should have to answer the question, "Are you gay?"

What's the saying? Truth is stranger than fiction?

I think I hear the sound of a mask being ripped off.

And there is another interesting piece on Rove on the same website (HuffingtonPost)

I almost feel compassion for Karl Rove and the loss of his father, and the love it seems he had for him. However, it frightens me the lengths that people go to in order to meet a political agenda, or to ensure power to themselves. Even, denying facts in one's own family. Sad and scary.

Default No one should have to answer

yeh, it's ironic as it is sad...

I can totally agree with Mehlman saying no one should have to answer whether they are str8 or gay. I think it's almost my life's work to make that possible some day...then again, how can he use gay people so callously and create such vitriol? He and Rove are 2 sick puppies!

From the article:
Quote:
Maybe Rove has a desire to get back at his father for leaving his mother when he "chose" to be gay. Or perhaps he is fighting his own homo-erotic impulses.
I really truly hope it is something other than the latter. I about fell out of my chair when a friend told me J. Edgar Hoover was most likely a closeted gay man. We were watching a documentary on Dr. King and it went like this.

(scene show J. Edgar Hoover saying something very bad about Dr. King)

Dotti: It is amazing what internalized homophobia will do to a person.

Jamie: Uh huh.

Suddenly Jamie grabs the remote and presses pause.

Jamie: What did you just say?!

Dotti: J. Edgar Hoover and his internalized homophobia.

Jamie: What? Internalized?

Dotti: Oh yeah. You didn't know that?

Jamie: No! One of us? Yikes.

I guess we will all deal with the truth, for what else is there to do. Continue to live a lie? But considering all that man has done, I'm really hoping Karl Rove is not secretly a closeted gay man.

I've been thinking about Revtj's post titled "No one should have to answer". Perhaps so. But to think creatively a bit: supposed you are a straight man and you are asked "Are you gay?" What do you think the response will be? More often than not, straight men take pains to assert their heterosexuality. When the time comes that gay men can assert their homosexuality with equal 'confidence'...well....that will say something, won't it?
