Default My new mantra....

because it speaks to the kind of person I am:
"Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tried, for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives."

I don't know the name of the author, it was text in a picture compilation email from a friend of mine. But I love the words....

Default Think about it!

The opposite of faith is not doubt. It's certitude.

Default Another one that a friend gave me today...

"The things that matter most in our lives are not fantastic or grand. They are the moments when we touch one another when we are there in the most attentive or caring way. This simple and profound intimacy is the love that we all long for." Jack Kornfield

LOL

I totally love this thread! I love sayings and always using them when talking to my kids. The one they are most tired of hearing (when they say "I wish") is, "If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride". I don't remember where I saw that but it is a good reply.

I saw another one on You Tube. A student (I think) was interviewing a teacher (I think) and the woman said, "You can't legistate the human heart". I just loved that one.

I have more in my documents, I'll have to dig up some of my favorites.

Couple a Gandhi quotes:
"My experience has shown that we win justice quickest by rendering justice to the other party."

"This ahimsa [nonviolence] is the basis of the search for truth. I am realizing every day that the search is vain unless it is founded on ahimsa as the basis. It is quite proper to resist and attack a system, but to resist and attack its author is tantamount to resisting and atacking oneself. For we are all tarred with the same brush, and are children of one and the same Creator, and as such the divine powers within us are infinite. To slight a single human being is to slight those divine powers, and thus to harm not only that being but with him the whole world."

And from the Tao Te Ching (or Te Tao Ching as this translator made it):
When people are born, they're supple and soft:
When they die, they end up stretched out firm and rigid;
When the ten thousand things and grasses and trees are alive, they're supple and pliant;
When they're dead, they're withered and dried out.
Therefore we say that the firm and rigid are companions of death,
While the supple, the soft, the weak, and the delicate are companions of life.
If a soldier is rigid, he won't win;
If a tree is rigid, it will come to its end.
Rigidity and power occupy the inferior position;
Suppleness, softness, weakness, and delicateness occupy the superior position.

"And here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."

-from The Little Prince...for those who haven't read the book, you really should... it's really short, and yes it was on a freshmen reading list... but I know a lot of adults who love this book... READ IT!!! I think you'll more-likely-then-not like it!

Better that a guy with father issues act out through homosexual acts, than that he get himself elected president and act out through acts of war. That's all I have to say on the matter.

Secrecy is the enemy of democracy. If politicians are acting honorably, they can do it with the doors open and the lights on.

Sorry, and thanks. I just didn't want to ruin it. Long story short, there ended up to be too many contexts, but here's the run down:
~~
At first it was supposed to be:

...because you treat me like an equal.

As in, "I love you...because you treat me like an equal.

It was in referrence to God, and immediately it brought me to the struggle for Equality that we face and how it all really comes down to wanting just that in order to feel comfortable with someone, or be "one" with them, and thus "love" them.

And then I thought about my family and my brother especially, and how condescending I can be because I actually am morally superior to them and I take it for granted that they should recognize this.
Kind of like I take it for granted that you'all should know to take statements like that with a healthy grain of salt. But they didn't take my sarcasm with a healthy grain of salt. Perhaps because I didn't suggest to do so. Whatever the case, I'll do better next time.

Point being though, I don't fear God to the extent that I perceive that God considers me an equal. I am coming from a paradigm of everyone already having the Power and Glory of God here and now.

But my brother is coming from a paradigm where God does not consider him equal to himself, thus there is a never ending struggle to measure up to God, usually by measuring others down.

So I realized it could also be seen as [I hate you] because you treat me like an equal...
~~

1) [I love you]...because you treat me like an equal.

or

2) [I hate you] because you treat me like an equal...

The first sentiment is to God. If I believe God love's me as much as it loves itself then Love treats me as an equal. Equality is what I recognize as Love/God, and thus expect from our "Christian" counterparts.

The second is from our "Christian" counterparts. They despise the fact that we consider ourselves equal to them, namely because their idea of God is literally one of 'holier than thou,' the antithesis of love. They can never measure up enough, they're addicted to measuring up. Throw gays in the mix and they have an endless source of "measuring up." (until we're no longer considered inferior..)

And once I got that far in my thinking I was convinced it resonated without explanation, so I decided to just throw it to the wind and see if it had any resonating effect.

I was going to keep an eye out for a anyway, so I hope that at least provided some context.

I think I like the first one the best though as far as objective resonating effect goes.

...because you treat me like an equal.

I think I get it... not sure if I think of that the same way you do or not, but I actually say that a lot.

I respect you...becuase you treat me like an equal.
I love you... because you treat me like an equal.

..I just hadn't really ever heard anyone else say that.
