Default GLBT&friends vs. the opposition

I'm wondering if anyone has any idea of how many GLBT people and our allies there are in this country and how many people there are in the groups that oppose us (in general). I know this is kinda abstract, but what I'm wondering about is potential money that each "side" has to support their causes.

I see all of these mega churches and organizations that religiously conservative/fundamental people seem to support and I think there must be tons of money coming from them to support amendments to deny gay equality. I also hear the generalization that gay people have more expendable income than their straight counterparts.

So if there are a lot more GLBT people and allies, if money really matters in politics, if we are willing to donate our hard earned money and time, and if our campaigns are run with fiscal responsibility, then how can we not put an end to discriminatory legislation?
