Default Exodus Youth Conf. June 27-July 2

Hey everyone, Indiana Wesleyan Univ. is hosting an Exodus Youth Conference in late June. http://www.exodus2006.org/freedom/

Is soulforce doing anything to counter it?

What about doing something in advance, like asking IWU to not host the conference, etc.?

Anyone have any other ideas?

Nathan

It's clear from the publicity posters that Indiana Wesleyan Univ wants to make sure people know that this is not something that they are endorsing. It then reads as if Exodus is simply renting space....

I tried to find out a little more about IWU then. I assumed that this was a UMC college, but learned of a denomination known as the Wesleyan Church: http://www.wesleyan.org/ME2/Default.asp

from the Wesleyan statements on contemporary issues:
Quote:
Homosexuality
While we believe God loves — and we should also love — all sinners, including adulterers, fornicators, as well as those who practice homosexuality — we specifically reaffirm our strong position that the practice of homosexuality is a sin, and that even the propensity toward homosexuality is out of step with both the order of creation and the will of God. On this matter we cannot and will not compromise — the only marriage blessed by God is a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman. Those practicing homosexuality should be treated like any other sinner — with love and concern, yet with a call to repentance and conversion through God’s grace which results in the cessation of sinful behavior. (1996 General Conference)
and even more disturbing:

Quote:
3. How may the Church most effectively minister to homosexuals?
The Church must overcome the feeling that such individuals are undesirable people to be present in our services. Attempting to minister to their needs is not approval of their lifestyles. Parents should thoroughly instruct their children concerning the true sexuality of their bodies and carefully warn them that homosexuals may attempt to take advantage of them. Teach the children not to allow others undue familiarity with their bodies.
so while IWU is trying to distance themselves from Exodus, I'd say it's pretty clear that they have similar goals and interests.

Now, what to do? what to do? hmmm.......

That is so depressing. It would be great to have a letter writing campaign sending the real stats about homosexuality and pedophilia so it can be shown that is an old tired myth. The ask this group to change their website, not to say that anymore. Sounds like it could be done. Enough pressure from people and they will have to change that or remove that statement from their site. It is an untruth, show them the truth!
