Hello, name is Cecil Prescod. I am African American United Church of Christ minister in Portland, OR. I have been active in social justice movements for most of my life. My original inspiration was a photo in a Ebony magazine, with a lone protester with a sign with the words, "Blessed are the peacemakers". As a pacifist who seeks to model nonviolence in all my life, I am pleased by many of the activity of Soulforce. I hope to be part of the discussion on Walter Wink.
On this feast day of All Saints, let us remember those countless individuals who faithfully witnessed to the gospel's message of peace and justice for all. Soli Deo Gratia. |

Welcome Pastor Cecil.
For the moment, I still hold onto my Baptist identity, but I feel a real connection with the UCC. I've certainly attended more UCC worship services over that past three years than I have Baptist ones! I loved the commerical that the UCC ran this spring. In case anyone missed it or would like to see it again, you can find it here: http://www.ucc.org/ucnews/mar04/welcome.htm Also I was thrilled when I recently read that civil rights activist Andrew Young, close friend of Martin Luther King, Jr., is UCC. |
