Default It may not be fair, since we don't know the others ...

... but I think we're pulling for you. What I read was very, very good.

Here is an old public speaking trick: just imagine them all sitting there in their underwear. (just don't get distracted by the cute ones)

Default No - NO!

Don't do it! Just to check out the ramifications - the next time you are in a crowd, just picture them all in underwear. If that doesn't make you nauseous, nothing will. It may seem funny, but as soon as you start, your eyes will settle on the rather large couple sitting in the front row. Just picture me - with a woman equally as ... well, filled out.

Do yourself a favor, and picture everybody as clothed up to their ears - that's the only part you want showing. Even then ...

If you need a mental image to help get over the jitters, picture Grandpa Dave sitting in the front row with all your other friends from Soulforce (FULLY CLOTHED, puleeze), engrossed in what you have to say, weeping because of the wordsmithing that brought us to the edge of our seats, beaming with pride because we all know you.

The ovation will be deafening, and you won't be able to see the back of the room because everyone is standing up applauding your courage and remarking to their neighbor about your wisdom and articulation.

And afterwards, as the adrenalin recedes, you'll overhear us saying, "Well, that was a forgone conclusion - we knew he'd be the best. It doesn't matter what the judges think, although thankfully for them, they agreed." And we'll be saying to other people, "Hey, we know him."

And that is what will be happening - it might be virtual, but it will be happening. How many of the speakers will be able to know that supporters all over the United States, and some in other countries, will be rooting and cheering for our hero?

well thanks. I guess i'll just imagne everyone as hamsters. I love hamsters!! Seeing many of them would make me less nervous, but i guess a problem would arise when I start trying to put them in little balls.

Default or all of the above!

How about outrageously supportive Hamsters in their underwear?

Default congrats anyway Brian!

How could you be expected to win when you were surrounded by loudly cheering hamsters in their underwear ?!! talk about less than ideal working conditions! Honorable mention by the mayor is good when you think of all the people who never got that far and all the people who didn't even try. Keep up the good work!

Congratulations Brian! It was successful all round.

As for placing or not placing. Competition results often have more to do with the judges' personal preference than with the quality of the competitors. We're proud of you, for being recognized officially, and also just 'cause.

Great you get to book shopping now! Seems appropriate enough.

Congrats!

Default Yeah him - we know him

Did you hear us cheering for you? I told him not to, but Gramps wore his underoos.

Now, to reality. This was a city-wide competition, was it not? And you got an honorable mention from his/her honor the mayor? Beauty! That makes you a winner in my book.

You've been missing some excitement - or at least not engaging in it.
