THanks for the info, Nathan. I really wish I could be there. What an incredible person that will be missed, and I only hope that someone will continue the legacy in her honor for GLBT persons everywhere, especially a person of color. What impact!

I have been watching Coretta's funeral most of the afternoon, and I must say, not only was she a remarkable woman, but the legacy she has left calls us all to a Higher level and commitment where civil rights issues are concerned. I am extremely moved at the way celebrating her life has brought people from ALL walks of life together, to share their memories. I really look forward to the day when humankind can come together like that all of the time, and not just on special occasions such as today. I thank God for this forum as well. This format also provides an opportunity for us to do that.

One statement that I saw quoted in the NY Times today was Maya Angelou stating "She cared for gay and straight people". I don't know if anyone else referred to her commitment to our community or not.

i wish i could claim ownership to this statement, but i heard it on tv. i do not know the author.

As Coretta arrives at the pearly gates, Martin Luther King, Jr stands with arms outstretched and says, "I have a dream and here she is."

I taped the service from Tuesday and watched it yesterday. 'W' did not make an idiot out of himself. Surprise.

I missed the Maya Angelou reference to Coretta loving gay & straight people but I'm sure she said it! She is SO wonderful. (I am re-posting my thoughts on the New Birth sevice below. I also attended the Ebenezer service and you can read that under 'Dream for Sale') Dang, I must be getting addicted to blogging!

One of the speakers commented "No one but Coretta could bring this diverse mix of people together in one place." Amen.

Praise God for Rev. Joseph Lowery who broke the polite spell and condemned the war in Iraq & the lies that led to it, the poverty Katrina showed us all, and the racism it exposed as still very much alive in America. 'W' sat there with his best poker face.

Berneice's eulogy was a very strange theological mix of allegory, numerology, homeopathy, and dominionism. She insisted that christians were meant to rule over the Earth. She also said the Lord had visited the Bentley-driving, self-appointed Bishop, Eddie Long, in a dream and had told him that Moses was dead and that he was to lead the people to the promised land. Yeah. Right.

I believe that the freedom lovers who are alive now, whose bodys and souls bear the scars of marching against segregation, will politely reject the Bishop's offer. In the meantime, I pray that the hearts and minds of Long's followers and many other christians will be changed on the subject of LGBT human rights. I pray that we will have the courage to speak truth to power to help this come to pass.
