Wow... when you say "household member," may I preseume you also mean "family?"
... Then again,,, i guess you could be referrring to roommates, which would make me feel a little better for you... though not much. As you probably realize, as tragic as these attitudes are (by simple virtue of their existence), they are not uncommon. I'm just sorry to know that you must live in the same household with such scary beliefs. I have a close friend whose sister was always making disparaging remarks about gays... until one day she had had enough, and said: "Do you realize that every time you say gays are worthless or should be sent to prison -- that you're talking about my son... your own nephew?" The sister was dumbfounded, and simply turned around and left. Later, however, she took her aside and said: "I have been blind. Please forgive me. I love and support my nephew... and I will never, as long as I live... ever make a hateful comment about gays again." -- So sometimes, the most powerful statements we can make are through our own coming out... as we discover that, when given a choice, our families will often prefer to love us than hate gays.... But of course no one can guarantee how your friends or family might take the news... which is why they call it "courage." The only promise I can make is that we will never enjoy true equality... we will never fully tear down the walls of hate... untill we learn to be honest about who we are -- until we stand up and are finally counted -- because the numbers are enormous and could no longer be ignored. Much love, and the very best of luck! - Troy

I heard a lot of that when I lived in Houston - is it the air pollution that gives rise to that? Seriously, I hope this is a temporary living situation and that you get the heck outta there ASAP. In a way though, guys like us do us a favor by illustrating just what kind of blood thirsty hatred is behind the anti-gay political platforms. I wish I could find the book I read this anecdote in, and if I find out where it's documented I'll post it someday - - what your roommate expressed was, not too long ago, echoed by a judge who was appointed to try a murder. The judge reportedly remarked from the bench, "Oh, it's illegal to kill a fag now?"

http://www.hatecrimesbill.org/2007/1...ristopher.html I agree with Zerbie...get out of that living situation. Some days I just wish we lived in a world where people did not think the way your roommate thinks (or that judge). How do you devalue other human beings like that? |

I don't think I would recommend coming out to family members or whoever they are then...Yikes...I'd leave that type of situation as well. Those type of attitudes speak of living in a hostile environment.

Seifer Boy,
I pity you for having to live in such a household!! What about "thou shall not murder"?
