Default Greetings

Hey everyone! Thank God I found a forum like this. It's just what I need!

I am in college right now, majoring in history, and I'm enjoying it. My college is very welcoming and affirming of GLBT people. It's run by Catholic Franciscan friars, so many are surprised when they hear of a Catholic-run campus being so affirming, but it really is. They seem to have a much more moderate view of things.

I was born and raised a devout Catholic, and I still consider myself one, although I have struggled a lot with my sexuality (I'm almost 100% sure I'm gay) and my religious beliefs.
I have a lot I need to talk about in regards to that, but that's for another post.

I look forward to talking to everyone!

I would love to hear more on the Friars' affirmation and how you are benefitting!

Hey Gman!! Welcome to the forums! Glad you found your way here.

I attended a Franciscan midnight mass on Christmas eve. It was so wonderful, loving and I felt so at home. Haven't been back yet (a challenge for me personally is to just MAKE IT to church!), but it was enough for me to actually toss the idea of 'converting'. I just loved it!

Well, you found the right place. Soulforce forums is a great place to talk, find a shoulder when you need one, and discover yourself. You are wonderful just the way you were made!

Hi Gman,

Welcome. Make yourself at home.

I am one of the handful of Catholics that we have here. I have found the Catholic church much more open and affirming in practice than in official doctrine.

I also went to church-run college. (Not a Catholic college, but a protestant one. ) It was a great place, and I enjoyed it a lot and got a top notch education.

Please let us know your thoughts.

Tu Amigo, Pablo

Welcome.

I'm not at all surprised that a Franciscan college was affirming for you ... the Franciscans are fantastic people, and I really think they've got their perspectives right!

(UDog ... do I get my Calvinist card revoked for saying something nice about "papists"?)

Glad you're here.

Nah!! Franciscans hardly qualify as "Papists" Carol and I frequently stay at a franciscan retreat farm in Minnesota and I am certain that the sisters are Pagan/Christian syncretists. We just never go outside at night if there is a full moon for fear of encountering naked nuns dancing in the meadow.

Hi gman
I'm new to this too - even the forum bit.
Sounds like a great place to be though.
Looks like most posts bring healing.
