Here we are, the GLBT people of the US, fighting for the ability to be with the people we love and have the same liberties (marriage, health benefits, hell, even military service) as any other person in the States. My question... where is the ACLU?
The American Civil Liberties Union will raise cane over a city hall in the middle of no where posting the 10 Commandments, or a school having a copy of a "religious" book in their library. They take cases to the Supreme Court over the right to burn flags, demonstrate, and pray in schools. They had a fit when girls under 18 almost had to tell their parents before they could get an abortion, but where are they on gay issues? Have they once stood up and fought for our right to marry? Serve in the military? What is their stand on gay civil rights? Honestly, I have heard about their action on freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and almost all of our other Bill of Rights issues... but not once have I heard about their stand on gay issues. -Tink |

They're around.
I receive email newsletters from the ACLU and very frequently the headers deal directly with issues critical to the LGBT community. I can't say for how long this has been true, or any other details, but I do know that they take up LGBT issues as well as other ones. About a week ago I even got an email saying that a local chapter is seeking volunteers for a new LGBT steering committee, or something like that. Come to think of it, I sent them a note asking for more information, and never got a reply. Should see what that's about. Go ahead and sign up for their email newsletters if you want to be updated every week or two.

They were also in Springfield, IL on the Civil Unions Lobby Day and will be marching in the Pride Parade in June here in Chicago.

If you think the ACLU is bad with LGBT issues, try being a disabled person and asking them to help. I sympathize.
