Yes! That Jay Bakker -- Tammy Faye Messner[G-d rest her beautiful soul] and Jim Bakker's son. I have heard him preach and this one stands out so strongly for me:
"It is never enough to be merely tolerated. The churches are wrong about this. Every Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transgendered person deserves to be embraced in love and so I do say this. I love you. Christ loves you without reservation. Totally. That's the good news I am bringing today." When has anyone ever heard that in a church. I did once in All Saints Church, Pasadena, CA. BUT Jay said this in Community Church, Sherwood, AR, just outside Little Rock. Pretty great, eh? --kev

I read a book a few years back edited by Mike Yaconelli (Dangerous Wonder) who had his own transformation out of evangelicalism. Jay was one among other 'sons of leaders' who had hit the wall and were writing from their somewhat worn soul, about how God (G_d?) was now out of the box in their experience. Some did not not even yet have a landing place.
That was about 6 years ago, and I remember how it gave me hope. Hope that I was maybe not going to be screwed by the redefining going on in my experience. I haven't thought about Jay for awhile. I should track down the others. Perhaps they've just become a part of the next movement - The Emergent Church, which will emerge yet again into another form of rules and programs. Oh my - may I not just become cynical, but may my discontent and anger produce some lasting fruit for once. Grant |

Check it out.
http://www.revolutionchurch.com/ He's been on his dad's show and amazingly Jim has shoften on his stance on GLBT persons. That is hopeful. Of course he's a lot more humble now ... --kev

My wife and I have watched The Revolution on TV. I think Jay Bakker is a wonderful representation of the younger generation of people who are saying, "Gay? Ok, by me!" and preaching a much gentler, kinder, more gracious God. I hope that this wave catches on, and young people who really could give a flying flip whether someone is gay or not will rise up against this homophobic establishment and move them out. Jay Bakker is wonderful and I hope to see his church grow and his message preached over and over. Amen!!!

I've been really encouraged by the stance Jay has taken on the issue. There is a branch of the Revolution church that he kickstarted here in Charlotte, and they were present (and so, so sweet and wonderful) at Pride back in August, and I've been considering checking them out because part of me really misses having 3D spiritual conversations with people who don't try to change my mind about my sexuality... but I've been so burned by churches, even churches I thought were different (last one I went to, I had a panic attack and a nosebleed in the middle of the service and fled) that I haven't been able to bring myself to do so yet.
Maybe one day I'll get up the nerve, though. Little soundbites like this certainly help encourage me toward it.

I don't know if you all know, but I'm starting "Bar Church" here in Tulsa... It's going to be held at an upscale gay club, and the reception from gay people is really good so far, but I'm finding the response from straight people is incredible! EVERYONE (well, tons of people) is looking for a spirituality that makes sense. I should be able to podcast bar church, so "stay tuned!" ![]() http://www.myspace.com/barchurchtulsa |

I watched all six episodes of One Punk Under God on Monday night. I was told that would be a good thing to do in preparation for today's Soulforce press release.

How very exciting and possibly change-making. How are the families to be chosen? I might want to be part of that if possible. And the fact that Jay Bakker will be assisting is just tremendous.....
