Now this man goes after a made up character because J.K. Rowlings calls him gay. This man needs to be stopped, O'Reilly is a huge threat to this country IMO. He represents a very dangerous right wing ideology and millions of people are hearing his vile and hateful language.

Let's not forget his ever-endearing "Lesbian Gangs" segment. That was one that I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at.

And mercy vs. meat eating has to do with O Reilly how?

That is Hippie's signature below the line, Progo, not part of this particular post.

yep thanks for clarifying Andrew, that is my signature =)
The Lesbian Gangs thing is absolutely ridiculous and to think he was not held accountable for his "journalistic" flap. Also, what about his phone call to the sex hotline, how is he able to continually preach "values" when he himself messed up. |

The people here preach values while messing up, not in regard to their sexuality, but in regard to other matters, I'm sure. At least, I'll speak for myself and say that's the case.

progo you are absolutely right, but I find it particularly entertaining and appalling when these right wingers preach one thing and have a double life. Bill O'Reilly constantly preaches morality and has the nerve to use a sex line. I just don't understand why the media did not do more to cover it and why he still goes on ranting as a moral authority. He is so mad dumbledore is gay but surely that is less immoral for a fictional character to be gay than for a real person to have phonesex right?

I don't like people who pay for phone sex. It weirds me out. I have no trouble getting that for free. Although it does make me think of something. You know how sex lines charge so much per minute, and according to some sources takes in 4.5 billion annually, I have been toying with an idea to put this money to good use. To set up a ring of not-for-profit companies with some catchy name such as "Sexual Healing" if Marvin Gaye and Columbia Records would allow the use of it. The proceeds from the businesses would be donated to worthy causes, such as cancer research, or aid for third world countries.
Yes, I may go to Hell for this, but I thought it was clever.

If you haven't before, check out Keith Olbermann on MSNBC. He loathes Bill-o and takes every chance he can to hoist him up on his own petard.

DD-
MSNBC's incredibly biased reporting on life and death issues in regard to disabled people is one of the reasons that I watch Bill O Reilly, who loathes them. Please see my thread, "biased reporting" for an example of what I'm talking about. |

I did see your thread, and I would have supposed it went without saying that I completely disagree.

Disagree with what? Do you disagree that MSNBC is biased or do you disagree with how they covered the story? Or, are you referring to our respective positions on euthanasia?Perhaps actually responding there would be helpful in bridging some of the barriers that currently exist for the disabled and LGBT communities, at least where the news is concerned. Moreover, it would be a more appropriate place to share your opinion on that issue, instead of segwaying into it here.

you did respond to my thread in response to my comment about Bill O Reilly, which constitutes responding to the articles in that thread on this thread. Do you understand my meaning??? By the way, do you enjoy talking down to people? Because it sure seems like it. |

In saying I disagreed with you, I was referring to your admiration for Bill O'Reilly and your critique of MSNBC. I have not seen the piece on euthanasia, so I cannot comment on that (though, I imagine, I would probably disagree with you there, as well...just a guess). Be that as it may, since this response to you is further hijacking, this will be my last comment on the subject. Only when absolutely necessary.

Now, there's a thing of fantasy - the great objective Fourth Estate. That name seems to be credited to Thomas Carlyle, who also is the first credited with first using the term "throwing the baby out with the bath water" in print. Of course, he was criticizing the "damage done" when slavery was abolished in England. A really credible source, eh?
All press coverage is biased - period, end of story. In the end, people choose their favorite news sources based on what is most comfortable for them to hear. That maybe because it lines up with their own particular bias, or that it lines up with their passions, or that they're lazy and don't want to change the channel. The biggest problem is that we tend to lack the initiative to question our favorite news source as we would out politicians. Okay, I guess we're back to lazy. Critical thinking takes effort - and, at least, a modicum of intelligence. While O'Reilly panders to those who lack the former, I'm not sure it means they lack the latter. Of course, O'Reilly is a person - a single news source. Dissing an entire network because of one story - well, hmmm - you decide.

Everyone seems to have missed my point-which is not that Bill O Reilly is a great guy but that the left wing press has done the same thing that O Reilly does in a way that threatens the disabled community. FYI: I am not dissing the network because of one story. Just like many here don't like O Reilly because of the stories he reports and how he reports them, I do not support MSNBC for the same reason. Do you watch Fox frequently? I doubt it. I didn't watch MSNBC much before, but I'm REALLY not going to watch them now. If you or others, many of whom are constantly asking for me to provide proof to back my assertions, had taken the time to read any of the links that I've posted on related topics or looked at my website, you would see several stories written by MSNBC that I consider to be unfair and biased in a way that adversely impacts the disability community. You will find articles by Fox that are guilty of the same issue there as well. |
