If that happens, will someone walk me through HOW to sign up for those things???

U-dog,
yeah, I suppose the technology is already out thar. I have "Bonjour" on my MacBook...so, I guess I could turn it on when I am here...

Zerbie,

If it does "happen" you'll do just fine...it will be as simple as posting in the various threads. (BTW, you probably have Bonjour also).

I'll be back on this evening... I can try and help you to set up a Yahoo! account if you're interested...

I have myspace IM, msn, and yahoo... yet rarely anyone to talk to.

My thoughts exactly. Why is it so many people my age are clueless with technology? I had to ask one of my students how to text on the phone...sigh!

It was actually kind of funny. She had showed me how to text so I was trying it out with a text to Brent.
One student asked, "Who are you texting?" (I know, I know it should be, "Whom are you texting?)
One of the rowdy students piped up, "Probably his girlfriend."
I was trying to think of something smart alek with which to respond when someone else said, "Are you kidding? He'll NEVER get a girlfriend!"
To which I responded, "I'm pretty sure you're right."
It was one of those priceless conversations.

Don't feel bad, I'm not all that good with technology, either. Still haven't figured out the iPod!! And I'm in my twenties!! My digital camera, though I know the basics, can be a little stinker, too.

**gets out quill pen--no, chisel and stone tablet--time to write mom**

so i was at a stop light the other day while my gps was telling me to take a left turn as I was texting mom while talking through my blue tooth to my friend Elizabeth as i was listening to music from my ipod nano played throughout my car radio using my monster jumper as my friend steph took pictures of me using my digital camera.

i also had my laptop in the back. (mind you, that actually didn't happen, but it could. i'm not that bad...)

PS soulforce chat shouldn't be difficult to set up, we've got pm so all we would need is a universal chat program, that way we could use are already existing id's to meet up and chitty chat on the world wide

Well I have been clueless with technology as long as I can remember. It's because I'm never interested. I was about 8 or 9 when my dad bought our first home computer, and I would CRY when he made me sit there trying to learn to use it. 'Da-ad!!! I want to Read A Book!!'
When email started becoming common/ubiquitous in the 90s, my attitude was: what's wrong with just mailing a letter? What could be SO important it can't wait?

At least I figured out how to do text messaging. It isn't hard or anything. I just can't be bothered to press all those little buttons - now I say: Puh-leeeeze just let me type an email.

That rocks!!!!

Pabs, you're awesome! Sounds like your kids (some of 'em anyway) know you pretty well.

You definately created an interesting image there..

I agree, chat shouldn't be that hard to get, and it would be nice!

Default A little dyslexia perhaps?

When I first read this thread title, I though, for a second, that it read as 'Cat room".

Now that would be odd, wouldn't it, a room full of cats, or catty chat. Though I thnk we are a more civilized bunch.

Know what? While I can see, in some ways, why this would be desirable, I rather like having to think (ha!) before I respond to a post. Instant messaging? The hand sometimes startes working before the brain engages!

When I first was here on SF, I instant messaged with a certain he-shall-not-be-named and the conversation really didn't go anywhere. Of course, I'm pointing out the downside. If the idea is to talk to friends- that's one thing. If it is to converse with those who - shall we say- have another agenda- the distance - and propriety of making pubic posts- is great just the way it is.

All this aside, to those who want to have a chat room: that might be interesting. However- it would take away from posting- and there is a good reason for posting: the 'public' gets to lurk and get a little - shall we say- education.
