How old is humanity?

Speaks for itself also.

only 51? let's be honest here... homosexuality has to have been around for longer than that! what about Leonardo da Vinci? or even Alexander the Great? surely homosexuality was around when they were here... otherwise they were just weirdos.

We could get into the whole Boswell Queer Theory thing, but the truth is I think it's pointless bull. There's been man on man lovin' and woman on woman lovin' for as long as there's been men and women to love. It might've been called something different, or it might not have been called anything at all. ANd it might have functioned differently than our modern understanding of it; could have been squeezed to fit different cultural contexts, but that doesn't mean it didn't exist.

Oh. Um, in short:
::agrees with all of the above::

WHAT! It's as old as U-dog???!

But I thought it was something new and trendy. That's what they told me when I signed up. And I signed a five year contract! Now I feel like an idiot.

I think homosexuality has been around since the beginning of time. But the term homosexuality I believe was coined in the 1800's?

Default Homosexuality, how tired a word

Why use a term that has such un-fun power in it?

How about "Capacity for same-sex intimacy"

Better but I think there is a more fun term

So Try using this in the original question

"How old is the capacity for same-sex intimacy?"

I would answer:

It is and always has been part of the inherent design of our species to be driven to be intimate-- with either sex!

Yeah! A Pretty wonderful Capacity!!!!!!

I love the term 'capacity for same sex intimacy', although I also like the idea of asking the question in terms of how long have there been 'same gender loving people'.

From a scientific standpoint, I want to say...

*Looks at pre-human primates, etc.* It seem like... that capacity has existed long prior to us becoming humans. I'd make the argument homosexuality, the potential for creatures to love and have relationships with members of the same sex, etc. has existed even prior to our coming into existence in this world.
