Post Gay and Christian

I come from a long line of antigay religious zealots who condemn me for my sexuality, my life style, and my religion. Some say that I can not be a Christian because I am a lesbian. Others say that I am not lesbian I have been just led astray by unscruplous women who are bent to damn my soul to hell.
Over the years I struggled with this ideology. I kept asking myself how can I be both a lesbian and a christian? Does anyone have any advice or suggestions in dealing with this spiritual crisis?

Best place to start would be the resources tab up there.

Default get clear about your concerns

Hi and welcome to Soulforce!

The title of my post says what I believe to be important based on what you have written.

Sounds a bit academic, but I would encouage you to write down your concerns. Put them on paper. And then figure out if these concerns and questions are one's that you have yourself or are projected on to you by others.

Then what? Address them one by one. The suggestion of the rescources tab is excellent. Please avail yourself of it.

Simply reacting to what other say and do can leave one feel as though there is nothing that can be done, but this is not true. There is a lot you can do, both for yourself and others.

But first, you have to educate yourself about that which bugs you. See what I'm saying? Start where you are, not where others think you should be.

And there is a lot on these pages about non-violence, about learning how to respond to those who condemn you. I would look into that stuff too.

Know what? The bottom line for me is that you don't have to justify yourself to anyone! Period!

Love to you!

Daniel

Welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry for, and at the moment because I'm having an unpleasant day, irritated, by the situation you describe. People told you this and they told you that. You "can't be" this and you "can't be" that.

If you are what you think a lesbian is, then you're lesbian. If you are what you define a Christian to be, then you're Christian. And if you're both, you're both, and whoever "they" are, They Are Plumb Wrong!!!

I watched the movie "Gandhi" last week. In the opening scene, they show Gandhi, who was Indian and received his law degree and passed the bar exams in London, riding first class on a South African train. The train employees looked at him, saw skin they thought was too dark and told him he was 'colored' and that he could not ride first class. He produced the ticket from his pocket. They told him he could not possibly have the ticket (despite that they could see he had it.) He told them he was an attorney. The response was: "There ARE no 'colored' attorneys in South Africa."

People say things sometimes out of ignorance that are simply not correct. When people do that, just don't believe them. You are whatever you are, and when it comes to your inner life and your beliefs, you know best who you are and what you believe. If other people are wrong, then they're wrong.

Welcome, and sorry that this is happening to you. If you feel you are a lesbian, then you are. I would wonder about a person that tells you how you have been "led astray" by others. I would wonder how they got the idea that I was so weak I could just be 'led astray'. Its really the same presmise of "you made my sister a lesbian...." which leads me to, "Wow, she is so stupid and unable to think that she would just try anything at all to fit in and can be convinced to sleep with anyone..." Like being lesbian is a choice or a phase or something. Does that mean you would go with an unscrupulous man? Would that be considered better than an unscrupulous woman?

I struggled with this same thing, was I going to Hell? Would I damage my children? Would the Creator let me into the afterlife? Can one be gay and Christian? Is there any other church that would be more gay affirming in your area? Look for PFLAG in the area and get involved.

My belief is YES you can be gay and Christian. I do know of several churches in Michigan where I live that have pride flags outside of them and are very welcoming. If we have them here, than it must be true, because MI is about as behind and backwards as a state can get in the gay spectrum of things! Hang in there.

You aren't by far the only lesbian raised and surrounded by anti-gay religious zealots, who aren't interested in any kind of reasoning, research or thinking about things just a little differently. They are staunch in their beliefs as if they were handed down on Mt.Sinai with the Ten Commandments.

Yes, you can be a gay Christian. Very much so, because the Bible says nothing, contrary to the anti-gay zealots you are surrounded by, about homosexuality. Please don't be hammered anymore that drivel. Join us in the lesbian community and be proud of who you are.

BTW, those women? They are lucky to be with you.

Default Welcome

Welcome to the forum. I met a young lesbian who is struggling about this very matter. It's so sad because there are so many GLBT people that love the Lord. When I reconciled my faith with my transgenderism, God loved me just the same. Putting someone down because of their sexuality or gender isn't what I would call Christian hospitality either.

There is absolutely no trustworthy evidence that what they say is true. None.

It's good that you are questioning what others tell you is true. That's called critical thinking and helps you to see a more rational, realistic world.

Default You are Welcome here!

I was born homosexual, and choose to be Christian...they seem to have it all backwards.
I agree totally with Rick, there is no evidence. They base all their hatred and condemnation from a few sentences in a book.
