A post at the end of the Advocate article about gay marriages in California being legal said:
"This is the most shameful moment in the entire history of creation." The most shameful moment in the entire history of creation? For centuries the Spanish Inquisition murdered tens of thousands of innocent people for heresy. In early America, slaves were forced into ships like cargo, endured hundreds of miles across the Atlantic Ocean and were forced into slave labor on Southern plantations. In the 1940s Adolph Hitler was responsible for the murder of ten million innocent people including two million children. Yet, this poor guy thinks that people of the same sex getting married is worse than that. Wow. Rick |

They have to say outrageous and idiotic things like that Rick, otherwise they would fail to get the uneducated folks geared up to vote yes on the anti-gay initiative in November. It's their only hope.
I've said it before, the opposition's arguments ring hollow. And often border on the line of insanity. So, same sex marriage is the worst thing ever in creation? Worse than Eve tempting Adam and both of them bringing down the entire human population ever to exist? Worse than the crucifixion of Jesus? Hmmmm...sounds insane to me...

Anyone who says it is the worst thing to happen since creation is a moron, plain and simple and I think morons need to shut the hell up.
It is an historic day in California and the tidal wave that the rest of this country needs to give gay and lesbian couples the same rights as straight people in the future. All I have to say is- Hallelujah, thank you God. ![]() ![]() I am waiting for it to reach Texas. (doubtful, but who knows?)

...living in a country that has allowed same-sex marriages for 3 years now, I would just like to take a tiny moment to say, "congratulations" to the whole state of California. The struggle has been long, but surely now worth every moment, every frustration and set-back.
And may I offer up the hope that the rest of the nation will not lag far behind. For anyone who is interested, I would like to share with you a much more positive speech than quoted in this thread, given in the Canadian Parliament by a member, when a motion was made in the House to re-open the question of same-sex marriage (obviously with a view to having the new law struck down a year after it was passed. If you are interested, please read it here.

Evangelical- as one who has tasted your fair country's freedom (I was married to my husband in Toronto '05), thank you for the link that you provided! Inspiring. Your country is showing the my own state the way forward, and for that I am very grateful.
Thank you for your post! Great speech!

News flash!
It was announced today that the summary language for Prop 8 (on the ballot) has been changed. Before, it was simply to read that it would provide for a constitutional amendment to recognize only marriages between one man and one woman in the state of CA. Fiscal impact, none. Now, it reads that it will eliminate the right for same sex couples to marry. Fiscal impact, loss of revenues to the state and counties, mainly due to sales tax in conjunction with weddings. In the long run, likely no fiscal impact. That's a huge step for us!! Language that actually states the initiative takes away rights and does indicate an immediate fiscal impact anyways.

Here's the latest California poll that shows the majority still oppose banning gay marriage in the state:
