Default Hello my name is Sheri

I'm from Orange California (a red county in a blue state). I've been so encouraged by our state supreme court outlawing separate but equal policies on marriage, but discouraged by the ignorant letters to the editor in the Orange County Register. If we are in for a fight this November to keep Gay marriage alive then I thought I better join something!! I saw your movie at a church in Irvine this past month and learned about Soulforce. My youngest son is 25, a loving human being, a wonderful pianist, a beautiful soul, and gay...and unfortunately the only thing the world sees is the gay part. I want to change that!!

Default Welcome, Sheri

We have had something of a minor flood of moms of GLBT folk arriving lately. The one thing most of you share is the pride in who and what your children are - it is tangible, to say the least. They are blessed, as is your son specifically, to have you all as parents.

And, you bless us all with your presence here and your public affirmation of your child. Thank you for being a beautiful example, along with many others arriving lately, of supportive parenting.

I pray we can help with direction or resources in what you seek to accomplish.

Andy

Hi Sheri,

Welcome to the forums. I moved to Colorado from LA about 15 years ago. I know what you mean about a red county in a blue state. We in LA thought of Orange County as a whole separate metro area. I got my master's Degree from Concordia University in Irvine. I know all about your area. I am praying that California will keep gay marriage. It is a state that is generally on the cutting edge of any social change.

I also have a great mom. I am very blessed. It is great to have another wonderful supportive mom with us.

I assume the movie you saw was For the Bible Tells Me So? That's a great documentary that I wished everyone could see.

Please post more and share your thoughts with us.

Tu Amigo, Pablo

Thank you Pablo and Gennee,

Yes, it was the movie, "For the Bible tells me so" and Rev. White was there to introduce the movie. He passed out the Soulforce booklet and I found this website from that. What I've read on these posts from young people who don't have the family support breaks my heart. But I also realize the strength in numbers...we all have to stick together and not let them win. I've been writing letters to various editors about our gay marriage decision. (here in California) So many have threatened to overturn it in November and it has consumed my life. I can't sleep and I get up and write. I think that I am so well versed in Leviticus that I could recite it in my sleep. This forum has helped because I don't feel so alone in my quest. I cant wait for November to be here...yet I'm terrified of what November will bring. I have faith in my fellow Californians, but there is a lot of out of state influence and money being poured into the other side.

Thanks for listening.

Sheri,

I have always thought that major changes in our nation often start in California. I sincelerely hope that this election will be a case where California will be instrumental in starting a cascade event where other states will also affirm gay marriages.

Keep up your efforts. We get another step closer to overcoming LGBT prejudice with each battle. I wish I still lived in California so I could vote.

Tu Amigo, Pablo

I saw the movie last year and I absolutely loved it. It has been shown at a few places here in New York recently. It makes me cry when young peole don't get the needed support from their families. November is very important for everyone concerned. We MUST make our vote and voices heard!
