I'm very happy that kids are starting to come out of the closet at such a young age but i do worry about them. Its a scary enough world as someone who is straight, But for someone who is LGBT its even scarier.

I have know about 2 or 3 people who came out of the closet at an early age and it wasnt easy for them, Getting called names and being bullied its all really hard but i do admire them they have so much courage to come out in middle school.

Good lucky to all you middle schoolers who are coming out to this crazy scary world.

having come out in middle school myself, incorrectly, as a lesbian, I would strongly advice against coming out in middle school. Whether or not you are sure or not is irrelevant. I was very sure and I turned out to be wrong and even if you are right the amount of bullying and hatred that goes on is truly unbearable, at least, it was for me.

Having said that, after reading that article and seeing how it had affected a lot of people's lives in a good way in that in setting up GSA's they were able to help other GLBT people in their school, well it made me happy.

I can uncderstand why these kids are coming out earlier, it is becoming much more accepted nowadays then ever before. Even when i was in Middle School (about 8 years ago) or high school (4 years ago) things were not as thye are now. They deserve to be accepted no matter what and they are the ones that are going to lead the world into an accepting place.

There are problems with this of course, I was on another blog site and there were many people who were stating how disgusting and un-God like homosexuals are and i thought it was ridiculous but they are the people who will oppose these young gay individuals. They (the middle schoolers) need help to understand the difference between the truth and these jerks who will oppose them. Us older hoosexuals need to be there for the younger ones.

I agree Matt. I'm no psychologist, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that people who go out of their way to spew paragraph after paragraph of vicious and hateful words on the internet about a subject they know very little about are not happy, emotionally sound people.

I didn't even get to the comments: the article itself was pretty gross at parts too. No one wants to deal with the actual issue of homophobia in children of that age group; it's easier to just say "SHHH! Don't bring attention to yourself." I'm still twitching about the part of King "pushing the line" being "bullying".
