Interesting to me to note the high number of "NF" personality types here. If I remember my notes (geez...that's like 13...14 years ago) it was called the "Apollonian" temperament.

Now I'm gonna have to go digging through some old boxes...

I noticed that too. Very interesting. Is it a Gay thing? Is it an activist thing? Is it a message board user thing? Who knows?

Here's a page on the "NF" type.

I have excerpts in my notes at home from the book Please Understand Me that discuss NFs in some detail. Alas...I won't be home till 10-ish tonight. (Wednesday's kinda suck... )

Unhappy That's Me

...INTJ enneagram 4...my worst conflicts in life have been with ENFPs --and enneagram 1s and 2s...

I had an ENFP friend and I asked her to tell me how to get to a well-known local spot, driving, of course...she said she had no idea what the directions were, she could just get in the car & "feel" how to get there...we had a hard time maintaining a friendship

I have found that both instruments (MB & Enneagram) are a tremendous help in learining how to get along with people (esp. colleagues) and how to help people from a pastoral care perspective.

Self-knowledge is the key to being authentic. Being authentic is the key to exercising the gifts of the Spirit!

No, you can't do that keltic, because INTJs think ENFPs have major boundary issues...I guess you feel like you're going to beg me to be friends with you again-- well, I don't know, I'll have to THINK about it!

Talking OK Then

It's the noble thing to do...I accept your begging and you can now be my friend again. Now let's sing together: Feelings! Whoa, oh, oh Feelings...trying to forget my, feelings of love for you...

Isn't that interesting?

Reminds me of the saying (yeah...I'm slipping into classic NF mode I suppose): we teach what we need to learn.

Aw shucks, aren’t you sweet, thanks Lydia. As meaningless coincidence would have it, I too tend to waver. Somewhere in between INFP and NSOB.

This to be a curious thing you touch on. Like you, I am highly introverted. But I've been working in the arts for 17 years now and see a progression towards being more and more extroverted. Those who rise to the top are quite extroverted from the get-go it seems. So I would agree: this is a feature of being successful within one's field is as much as the field demands it.

My partner is introverted as well and has amazing 'people' skills: he's starting his MSW this Fall. I bet you have a lot in common with him.

Default The introvert extrovert thing

Hubby & I just talked about this same stuff last night. I had just gotten home from George Takei's appearance on my campus where I tabled for a coalition I volunteer for. I was telling DH how extroverted Takei seems, and we speculated as to whether the trait was inherent, or whether it was acquired through skill at Star Trek conventions, etc.

Point being, you can develop skills that are no inherent, and develop them to a point where others won't know if they are natural or acquired. Add me to the list of natural introverts who can be extroverted when she has to. It still fails me at times.

I think I am an INTJ.
Sometimes I wish I was something else.

okay...I'm between a GNUS and MRON, feeling left out, my friend has my sister's copy of the B.&M. book, and that won't change before this thread fades away... What does that say about me? Oh, forgot... and a capricorn...

How can there be self help groups?

This needed to be repeated.

And I'm glad I'm not the only one who relies on "feelings" to get around town.
