Praise God in heaven above! Now we have a chance for civil rights in this country!!!! My birthday was on Sunday and I have prayed for something to happen to win the glbt community civil rights. It was a long time coming for the African American community as well.
Let us pray for this young man, for his safety and for his leadership. I am so happy!!!!!!

Yes we can.
This is a victory for all America. I don't think I have ever been more proud to be an American. I think I can honestly sing some of those patriotic songs I hate so much, and smile.

I cried during the entire acceptance speech! Me and Oprah!
Still not sure about my state....the difference is within 13,000 votes! They have NC at 50/50! Even though he has won, I still want us to win NC! Christine

YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! Hope for change is here!!!!
I've been rather hush hush on my facebook page about who I was going to vote for. Well, about 10 min after the race was called it was rather obvious who I voted for!! Sadly though, I got a not so nice message from my brother. Let's just say he is career military hardcore Republican.

I've already gotten a lot of homophobic BS on my facebook because I'm concerned about Prop 8 (and 102). No rest for the wicked.

I rejoice at the election of Sen. Obama as our next president. I rejoice with the African American community at this tremendous victory for them. I'll admit at first, I wasn't too thrilled about him, I wanted Hillary. However, he grew on me as time passed. While I agree that no one party has it all right, another Republican in the White House would have been too much at this time.
Regarding the same-sex marriage amendments in FL, AZ, and CA: according to Pam Spaulding on pamshouseblend.com, it doesn't look good. As Spaulding wrote on her website today, farm animals are apparently more important to Californians than lgbt people (re: the animal cruelty amendment which I believe passed). That saddens me, and I know many on this forum have worked hard to defend our civil rights in the above states. So, while happy that change will come in the White House, I'm sad that the civil rights of same-sex couples have been plundered by the majority.

Well, with 18,000 people having gotten married when gay marriage was legal in California, that ought to say something to the straight people who want to deny us our civil rights-If given the chance to marry, we will. And we won't stop until it is legal in all 50 states. I hope Obama will extend this to us, because his white mother and black father may not have had the right to marry and he knows what that feels like as the child of that union.

And I vouched for two of my roomies, so that they could do same day registration, and vote.
Barack Obama said that he hoped that his candidacy could transcend race. I'm looking forward to the time when this whole damnation can learn to transcend race. But for now, I'm celebrating. YAAAAAY TEAM! I know, I should learn to mellow out, Bruce Chris

And I am eagerly looking forward to the Obama presidency.
But the truly awesome seachange that clobbers me over the head is not the prospect of an AfricanAmerican Obama presidency, so much as the comparison to the truly disgusting presidency that has come before.
