Default Which Jesus Do You Serve?

I recently heard a song by Todd Agnew called "My Jesus". In the song he talks about Jesus hanging out with thieves, robbers, liars, poor people and humilitating the rich, wealthy, and selfish. He goes on to say that the Jesus he knows wouldn't be accepted in any church b/c the "blood and dirt on His feet might stain the carpet." Got me thinking...who would Jesus hang out with if He was on the earth today? Conservatives? Members of the Christian Coalition? James Dobson?

Or Mel White? Gene Robinson? Ghandi (if he were alive)? Me? You? Other "outcasts" of society? I think the answer is clear when looking at His life.

I think he would hang out with all of us. I think there are conservatives, who, even though they reject gays and lesbians, are very loving people. I think that their beliefs arise not out of some hatred or fear of GLBT persons, but out of assertions about the way the world should be. I strongly disagree with them, but I don't think that just because someone is anti-gay that makes them a hateful person.

That being said, I think that Jesus would hang out less with the "religious right" (and the "secular left") and would hang out with the same people described in the Gospels.

Namaste.
