Fascinating.
Definitely academic, this lecture is a bit lengthy, but fascinating. In essence, a history of homosexuality in various societies throughout history. At one point, the lecturer calls anti-homosexual persecution in the western christian society an 'anomaly' in world history. Discusses myth, Judeo Christian religion, problems of Old Testament translation, and more. Halfway through, audience members ask questions, which brings out some interesting discussion and speculation. http://www.forum-network.org/node/1446

The book is called Homosexuality and Civilization. Author is lecturer Louis Crompton. You can easily find it online. I found my copy at a local Borders.
