  Indeed though. How easy some is written off off handedly and why in the world any body or thing found reason for some of it is beyond me... I just attended a 2 day class regarding communication. It was very interesting. When we talk in person, our body language is actually about 55% of the message, tone is 38% and our actual words are only 7%. When we post message, we lose most of that 55% body language, which only affects our message when we are actually setting our body language up and it unconsciously affects the tone of our written message and/or our words.
It's easy to assume what someone else is thinking, which is why it's important to project appropriate body language and tone with or spoken words when talking to someone. We have to anticipate what that person may be assuming about us and make sure or actual message is what they 'hear' (and see of course). In posting, we lose that part of it and it's easy to assume that someone takes our message wrong, or that a particular statement is directed at us. I think this is enhanced the older we get. So, if it's important to project appropriate body language and tone in person to make sure the actual message is heard, maybe it's important to do some of that in posting too. or at least keep in mind that things are often not what they seem. We have no control over what someone else posts, but we do have control over our own reaction - which basically can control the outcome. Learning this also gave me a little insight into those posts that might be more than mere bad assumptions (such as those by Exgay Biz) - we have no control over what he posts (other than someone banning him outright), however, we have control over our reaction - which could be to post back and then how, or to just decide not to react at all. Either way, we have controlled the outcome to a certain extent. Anyway, I took Non Lemings posting kind of like Keltic did, but reading back thru I can see the point that it wasn't directed at him. Interesting stuff - we humans...

Another thing to take into account on fora is posting history and style. Lemming has responded to other threads in a similarly sarcastic/ironic style, and remembering that, I took his post here in the same vein. But fwiw, the first time I ran across it, I too took it at face value because there was nothing in the written words to suggest it was sarcasm. That's why I think maybe some of these:  and maybe one of these:  might help clarify NotALemm's intentions.

You're right Zerbie, with considerting the history of how one tends to post. Were Keltic and myself up on that, we probably would have come to the same conclusion you did right away. However, I was not and hadn't given that any thought.
In communicating by writing, we have to be on top of our game and everyone else's!
