Hello, my name is Elizabeth Lorick
I joined soulforce because I'm a friend of Mel White on facebook. I'm from Lexington, SC and am happy to be part of this community. I've had an interesting and difficult journey. I was approved for ordination in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in 2005 but decided to leave after the CWA vote that summer against gays and lesbians in committed relationships. I joined the UCC but that has been tough as well, not for sexual orientation reasons but for other reasons. Right now, I'd say I'm pretty pissed off at the church and God, even though I know in my head the two are not the same. Any thoughts?

Hello Elizabeth! Now...I know what I'm about to say is infinitly easier said than done and I am constantly learning this BUT...you cannot judge God based on the actions of His people. That being said, there is no doubt you were wronged by a demonination...but God still loves you and accepts you as you are. I don't know much about the UCC demonination but have you tried any of the MCC churches in your area (if there are any)?
Trust me...I've been battling the God vs church vs me vs my sexuality for years...and still battle it (thanks to my parents). Someday, hopefully, we'll win that battle. Although I'm sure as long as there are humans on this earth, there will always be some sort of battle. Welcome to SoulForce!

Welcome to the group, Elizabeth. Tehillah makes a great point. How God thinks and how people think are two different matters. God loves you no matter what people do or say. He has something for you that in time will be revealed to you.

i am a lesbian pastor who has not come out to the church or community and am a voting member (delegate) to the ELCA assembly. I obviously am praying that the statement on human sexuality and especially the proposal on ordaining glbt in committed relationships will pass. My future depends on it. so there may be hope to come back to the ELCA if you can get over your disgust and disappointment with them. I wish you God's blessings on your life as you deal with your anger at Him. But as the others have said, God does not think like people do and welcomes and loves all people. Paul writes, "Welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, to the glory of God." You can substitute a lot of words for welcome: accept, tolerate, love, forgive, help ... You'll be in my prayers.

Elizabeth, Turquoise has some moderately encouraging news.
And the ELCA is having a national get together here in Minneapolis,in a week, from the 17th to the 23rd.
I managed to see a copy of some of their pre-convention papers, and the one addressing human sexuality was studiously non-judgemental. I do not have a feel for the inner workings of the church, not being a member, but at least they are NOT starting out from a fire and brimstone position. I love the UCC, and I have been a member of a wonderful UCC church. Of course, our church has strong gay roots, as it formed as a split off from an MCC church. Do I have answers to this? No. But I can relate to the "church" frustrations and those that sit in the pews thinking they are better than the next man next to them. I have a sister that is really involved in her church, and once she found out that I was gay and she "has" a gay sister - our sisterly relationship came to an end. I'm an abomination!
 Not sure what churches are teaching, but it's hurtful and damning to us other Christians that "happen" to be Christian.

Sometimes, one has to rid of the toxicity in one's life and it happend to my my sister and family. Just a few weeks ago, I lost my brother and his family just because little sister has a life and found love.
