This is a devastating blow to my faith. I pray the Catholic Church will realize that threatening the people is wrong. -Joan |

its things like this that have caused so many GLBT people to turn away from Christianity. Christ has so much to offer each and every one of us, but his own "followers" are pushing people away from him. I hope that some day that "Christians" actually read the Bible some day and realize that it does not say to discriminate against those you disagree with.

Certainly not worse than torturing and burning people alive during the Inquisition. Threatening to abandon vulnerable people for political leverage to oppress and harm gay folk is quite a step in the right direction away from outright murder.
Next may be allowing women to decide if their inferior brains are capable of deciding whether or not they could become pregnant, but as it is now, only men possess the intelligence sufficient to decide for them. After all being a vessel for a man's sperm is the highest honor that this inferior gender can aspire to. I can see the bright future now. The Catholic Church is Leaping fearlessly from the 14th into the 15th century. Now merely 700 years from present humanity's evolution from predation of the vulnerable, the Catholic Church is steadfastly maturing by 1 year of development for every 100 chronologic years of time. All this and tax-exemption too! Christ Inc. where your dollars ensure that those morally inferiors feel the suffering of your judgement upon them! Blessed be the superior morality of the white heterosexist patriarchs!

[QUOTE] well now, that's just a ridiculous thought, everyone knows we women (especially those of us that are lesbian ) love being considered vessels for sperm. Why in the world would you want to try to give us the choice? thats ridiculous!*insert sarcasm here* hahamaybe one day there really will be true equality....

It could be the Irish ancestry but in the house in which I was raised if you called Catholics Christians you would have been beaten for it.
What made it even crazier was that we lived in a mostly Italian Catholic neighborhood. But then again who wasn't raised to be conflicted.

One of the reasons I became Catholic is that I feel the peace of Christ at Mass. I guess the book Christian and Catholic wouldn't have been too welcome in the house which you were raised. That book convinced me that Protestants and Catholics weren't all that far apart. Many of the differences are using different terms for the same thing. To get back on topic; this thing in D.C. has me questioning whether or not to stay in the Catholic church.

It seems to me though the the RCC isn't exactly saying "if you allow gay marriage, we're gonna stop being charitable, period"... it seems more like "we're just gonna end our contracts with you and continue our charities apart from you", which... given their very rigid moral code, that can't be changed, they're more likely trying to separate themselves from something they're simply not allowed to be involved in.

It seems to me an easy enoguh problem to fix in reguards to Washington. All they have to do is to make sure that all churches and religious organizations are no longer tax exempt. They need to pay their taxes or they need to shut up. If Washington would issue this threat back, the shit would stop.

Not all of the family immigrated to the U.S.A and the family origins are Northern Ireland. It's hard to tell who's crazier in that mess. (WTF?) I'm pretty sure it is different definitions of exactly the same thing. I feel that way about all faiths actually. I found a flavor than resonates with me. I don't feel I could support anyone or anything that claims to be "The Authority" on "All Things God". Hitting them in the pocketbook seemed like a good idea at first glance but there other non-profit organizations that might not survive without tax-exempt status. I'm fairly sure there would be a backlash.

No offense to the good Catholics of this forum, or of the world, but I shall speak my mind. A church that protects child molesters at the expense of children, as prominent Catholic hierarchs have done, has absolutely, positively no business making moralistic statements about anything.
Secondly, if the Catholic Church in D.C. were really a Christ-filled organization, perhaps it would have realized that ceasing ministries to the poor, hungry, sick, and homeless because gays are given their rights is NOT what Jesus would do.

Go on over to www.towleroad.com and scroll down to the bottom of the page. On the middle column you'll find a listing about a study that found that homosexuality is not a factor in the priest-pedophile crisis. Follow that link, and you'll find out that said study was commissioned by...the United States Catholic Bishops.
I wonder if our community will hear any official apologies from any Bishops on this matter? (Don't worry...I'm not holding my breath.) Wanderer |
