Default California to remember Harvey Milk

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Slain gay rights activist Harvey Milk will get a special day of recognition in California, making him only the second person in state history — in addition to conservationist John Muir — to gain such a designation.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's signing of the bill establishing "Harvey Milk Day" each May 22, Milk's birthday, was announced Monday.

GAS also signed the bill that recognizes same gender marriages legalized in other jurisdictions, before the passing of Prop 8. That one is huge.

I'm sure the onslaught of anti-gay rubbish ran wild on the local newspapers on-line forums, but I haven't brought myself to go there yet. I'm still celebrating the victories.

Unhappy Transgender People Left Out

While I applaud the passage of Harvey Milk Day, Schwartzenegger vetoed two bills that affect transgender people. One bill would allow transgender people to change their documents to reflect their gender identity. The other bill wold have made prisons safer for transgender people. Transgender people are thirteen times more likely to suffer violence and rape by inmates. The governator deemed these as unnecessary.

Gov Arnold Schwarzenegger (GAS) sucks Gennee. He likely signed the two bills he did to make himself feel better for neglecting our transgender brothers and sisters. While I am thrilled that we now have a Harvey Milk Day and that those married out of state before Nov 4th will be considered 'married' by California, it is horrendous that GAS fails to see the importance of protections for transgendered people. The "Ts" are always left in the dust!

The havoc GAS has wreaked with state employees is unbelievable. He has created immense burdens on state workers by furloughing the majority for 3 days a month. People have lost their houses, cars, child care ability, etc. All to supposedly save the state money, but in reality saves very little and in many cases has costed the state far more than saved. The cuts to those agencies which aren't furloughed (those under other elected officials, one of which is where I work) have had budget cuts so deep, we are basically barely operating. So ineffective as to almost warrant closure. It's our punishment for not being furloughed (which could actually still happen, if additional cuts are mandated).

Of course there are a multitude of other crimes he is committing. He needs to be gone and fast before CA becomes a third world 'country'.

Default Agree

Your right, tdogg. Regular folks are taking it on the nose. Transgender people probably have it a lot worse.

I agree that it is time to "terminate" the Governator (politically, of course). He is making a total mess of a state that I loved living in for many years.

Genee, that man is a scuzzball. I'd love to know why he did not increase protections for transgendered persons myself. Both the documentation changes and the need for more protection for those trangender persons in the prison system are no-brainers. Probably because he realised he can get away with it. What a (Re)puke.
