Default Collecting Friends

That seems to be a theme for me in this past week.

Starting with our own Daniel and his husband last saturday. It was great to meet and confirm that he is exactly what he presents here: A great guy!

Yesterday at school, one of my best friends from high school showed up as a substitute aid. we have been keeping in touch by cards and letters for years. She recently moved back into the area, but I had been dragging my feet as far as meeting up. This chance meeting allowed us to rekindle that friendship, and compare divorce stories.

Last evening, my partner and I are using the self checkout at the grocery store, when the guy behind us starts a conversation. It turns out that he recently moved here from the Philly area, and was feeling disconnected from the things he loved. We're rural, and somewhat redneck. He mentioned that he was part of the "family" and wanted to know where we go for fun! We exchanged phone numbers and expect to hang out with him some time soon!

So, how about you? have you been gathering a family that you choose?

Those are great stories Keltic!

Hmmm, me? Kinda, not so much in 3D. I'm in academia, and during the year everyone's swamped, and during the summer everyone is gone.

So in 3D, I'm a little lonely.

But not entirely - having a Girl's Day Out tomorrow with a musician friend, gonna have lunch and then either raid some stores or see a flick. And, this is UNHEARD of, hubby & I went to TWO parties in the last 2 weeks (I usually end up going alone ).

I'm missing the friends I was so close with in the past, we've all scattered to the winds. So it would be great to meet some new friends in 3D so I'd have more people to hang out with offline.

Awesome!

Let's see.... There's a gay prom on Saturday. I'm considering wearing a tux jacket with tight vinyl pants. That'll make some friends. hehe

No date though.

I connect with most of my friends online. I've never even met some of them IRL, but we've been talking for so many years on various websites and blogs that it doesn't really matter.

I share my 3-D (cool phrase, Zerbie ) friends with my SO. There is one couple in particular that we both really like, probably because they're even bigger sci-fi nerds than we are. We get together with them to watch movies, etc a few times a month. They don't feel like family yet, but it's getting there.

Although I do think I may be more attached to SO's siblings than he is. It probably helps that they're fellow females who are roughly my age.

Oh man!!! I was THE biggest Buffy fan!!! It's the only series that I own on DVD. It was like the passing of an era when it went off the air.

I love Buffy!

Did you watch Angel as well? I preferred Buffy, but Angel was a pretty good spin-off.

Have you ever heard of Firefly? It's a non Buffyverse series by Joss. It only lasted one season, but I thought it was really good.

Did you know that Joss has been trying to get a Spike spin-off approved by one of the networks? He wants to bring back at least some of the Buffy and Angel characters.

And now I have to find a way to tie this into the OP. Um, well, watching any of the shows I mentioned in this post would be a great way to build friendships. Most of the episodes have something for everyone: horror, romance, action, drama, and humor. Lots of humor.

Question ah, huh... friends...

I've actually been rather unsuccesssful in making friends lately. I moved to PA only a year ago and thusfar started friendships with people who have the following characteristics:
- either hostile towards gay people, or awkward and don't call back after hearing about my girlfriend
- self-loathing and tending to spend all time talking about themselves in an attempt to get compliments
- too busy getting drunk and having casual sex to have a sober night of non-sexual fun with me

Pennsylvanians who read this, you are the exempt ones, but sadly things don't work out to meet and greet as often as would be nice. Any ideas where to make new friends?

LOL any ideas as to where to find a date.............

i have been friends w/ Mia14's woman for about 4 years now, we met on yahoo, she introduced me to my ex....and we've been like sisters ever since so obviously i'm pretty close w/ mia14 as well.....being in college helps plus all of my friends except me for me

i have yet to come out to everyone i went to hs w/ and played sports w/......although the one summer league softball team i played on was 90% lesbians and we hang out rather often when i'm home

if any of you ever come to Pennsylvania......give myself and Mia14 a hollar, we could do lunch!!!!!
