Default Two cats

I have two cats.....Sammy and Randall. I found them in a dumpster when they were only a few weeks old. Now they're eight years old and fat and happy. And very spoiled.

At my mum's house we have 2 dogs, Freddie and Leo. We had a cat Salsa, but he died a little while ago. I loved him! Greatest cat ever. I'm trying to convince my mum to get my girl's cat, Chancey.

No pets here.

SO and I are both allergic to most furry creatures. I've wondered about poodles, though. I've heard that some people with allergies to other breeds of dogs don't react to poodles in the same way.

I doubt that SO would go for a poodle as a pet, though. He think I'm girly enough already as is. )

I have two dogs and a cat. They are my children. My ex and I share joint custody. Each of them were rescued. They all currently live with me. (so does my ex) When I move to Berkeley this fall I am only going to be able to take one dog with me. The others will stay with thier other daddy here in Lynchburg.

My oldest son is a dog named Masala (all of the kids are named after Indian food). He turned three this past December 27th. He is hyper and extreamly loving. He is non-breed specific (we do not use the "m" word in our house).

My youngest son is a dog named Korma. He turned two last October 31st. He is very layed back and loves to snuggle. He will be moving with me to Berkeley. He is very excited about starting seminary, but even more excited that we will have one of the best dog parks in the country just a few blocks from where we will be living! He is also non-breed specific.

My only daughter is a cat named Pakora. She actualy adopted us last summer. I have never really liked cats until her. We do not know her exact age or birthdate, but we think a good guess is that she will turn two this July 4th. I just found out yesterday that I am alergic to cats.

If you would like to see a picture of my kids look at Corey's MySpace.

Default I just knew we were a bunch of animal lovers!

We have an indoor game preserve at our house: 1 dog, four years old named Abby, who is a Springer Spaniel mix; five cats: Pookie (16), Einstein (12); Felix (9); Cooney/Carlo (10); and Ashley (2). Also, a fish tank full of fish that keep having babies; and a guinea pig in our daughter's room named Stewart. All the four leggeds are rescues, even the guinea pig is from the shelter thanks to Mia. Our daughter's beta fish of one year just died last week and she took it really hard. They are like our other children in our house too, like Corey. Good luck with leaving your cat and other dog when you move, I am sure it will be hard. Unfortunately, as you can see, we have more than one cat that is quite up in age so I fear starting to lose them soon. Thanks for the thread, Mia- great idea!! Vanessa

We don't have a lifestyle that would accomodate pets (way too much travel, weird hours away from home, etc) but if we could we would have them. I adore rabbits. Maybe when I'm an old lady if I"m not traveling too much I might adopt bunnies from a rescue.

I tried to talk my husband into investing in a large aquarium but he flatly refuses. "Fish are NOT pets. They are decorations that you have to feed. You can't play fetch with a fish. You can't sit and cuddle a fish."

Hubby *really* loves animals. Between us, and not having opportunity to prioritize caring for live animals, we have probably about 70 stuffed animals. Many of them bunnies.

My girl and I each brought a cat and dog into the relationship and now they are 'our kids'.

Dot (who by the way is the most perfect dog in the world) is the cutest Yorkie Poo (Yorkshire Terrier/Poodle) who is very gifted and beautiful.
Travis is the best cutest Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix ever - and the two of them are absolutely adorable together!
Kitty Mou is a very petite calico and queen of the house. Puddinhead is a wild black cat who was born in a prison here in CA and 'rehabilitated' into a housecat (sort of).
Oh, and can't forget the newest member, Hotty, a bright chestnut Arabian gelding who pretty much is named aptly!! Oh and he's HUGE too! Not at home, but at my trainers, which is home away from home.

My friend at a previous job had a purple Beta fish named Mr. Fish (original huh?),and I was his adopted mom. We used to have great conversations and he was really pretty. One day he died and then I cried and everyone at work made fun of me. It was awful. They have no heart (and call themselves friends)!!

it's always hard when it comes to lose/leave pets like corey... we also had to leave a cat and get rid of one of the dogs when our family moved to Berkeley. The cat was mean so I didn't mind that, but I still miss the dog, he was a lad and great dane mix... so sweet and loving, my sister and I learned to walk by pulling ourselves up but grabbing onto him... my I guess that the campus has rules.... I'm just glad I wasn't older at the time, it would have been that much harder

Remember Corey I want to know how you end up liking Berkeley. I still miss it. What dog park are you referring to?

Talking

I am really going to miss my kids when I leave Lynchburg, but I will still have joint custody and I will get to visit them a few times a year and talk to them on the phone when even I want!

The dog park in Berkeley is Ohlone Dog Park. It was recently featured in Dog Fancy Magazine.

Have you talked to your kids on the phone before? How did they act?

I ask because my SO has "visiting rights" with a dog, Cocoa, he had with a previous partner. Occassionally he'll call and ask to speak to the dog. Apparently Cocoa will go nuts when he hears SO's voice, racing around the room in an attempt to find him.

My dogs get very excited when I we call. My oldest Masala likes to sing to the the Good Morning song from Singing in the Rain. So I will often call and sing it to him. We have an answering machine that the kids can hear when we leave a message, so I often call in talk to them on it too.

When my mum calls and i'm at her house, i'll put Freddie, the oldest (a german shepard beagel mix), he sits there very calmly and then goes to her room if the door is open and gets on her bed.

I didn't realice that's the place you were talking about schoolboi, I have been there... I always liked that place...so many sweet puppies right by the water too.

4 cats, all male:

Stanley -- all black, gold yellow eyes, skinny and "the baby" even though he isn't the youngest

Ollie -- "The King" -- alpha male, first kitty I got, gray tabby with white chest and paws, very sensitive, very talkative at 3 a.m., 3:30, 4, 4:30 - etc. (it's driving us crazy!)

Felix -- the Gentle Giant, I tease him that he's half pot bellied pig; he was a feral rescue, and has turned into the sweetest kitty ever; all black, like Stanley, with gold yellow eyes, but twice the size of Stanley, doesn't like to be picked up, but loves to be loved on otherwise

Oscar -- The Rascal, the Scamp, vies for alpha male position with Ollie; Osc is the coolest dude around, coolest cat I've ever met, really; everyone loves him, and he's especially good with kids, and always getting into some kind of mischief (then gives you that "I'm so cute" look to get out of trouble); can convince anyone that he's starving if he can see the bottom of the food bowl, even if there's still food in it

That's our "family" of furry kids. We love 'em!

Susan

Lightbulb Wow I am the only one with a bird.

I've had parrots most of my life. My last one I got from a shelter I volunteered at MAARS. His first owner was really band and he got lead poisoning and passed away last year.

I just got a new baby Pacific Parrotlet. I was going to name him Dudley but my geek roomies who love pirates renamed him VanCleef. This fits since he has a major attitude but is cute enough to get away with it.
