Cool Georgia, Same ol' song...

The court struck down GAs marriage amendment yesterday because only 1/2 of it appeared on the ballot. The hidden half writes the bible into GA law. We knew it wouldn't stand before the court because of the hidden half...

Now the Guvnuh says he's going to call a special session of the legislature if the Supreme Court won't overrule this ruling. That will cost taxpayers about $20,000 a day. That, when existing statutes already define marriage in GA by heterosexuality.

Straight marriage, immigration reform, rising fuel costs...my, how the electorate is distracted from real issues! One day these politicians really should thank LGBT people for letting them use us to hide rampant xenophobia, violent classism, poverty, racism, genocide, torture and abuse.

It's just them "activist judges" -- darn them, they're not supposed to uphold the Constitution! They're s'posed to do what we want 'em to do!

A'int it great, livin' in Jahw-juh.

Seriously, though, this is the first step in a much longer fight. It's very frustrating, and -- you're right -- it's a ridiculous non-issue to win votes for the Repugs. All those good Southern Christians will come out in droves to the voting booths to "protect marriage" from us radical leftist gays and lesbians who - gasp! - want equality.

Red face It's true

Now, if they can only find some way to attach the confederate flag to the anti-gay marriage issue...hmm...let's see...Sidney Lanier? Nope: poet, church organist, lifelong bachelor-- won't work, darnit...any idears?

Speaking of Georgia, what's up with Alabama? I'm here this week for work, and noticing the ads for governor (and other elect posts). Very conservative, will bring the Bible to their role in governing the state, etc. And what's up with the Honorable (Dishonorable??) Judge Roy Moore? I remember getting an email regarding Moore, seems to me it was in favor of this guy but she scares the crap outta me!

I'm so glad I live in California (and have all my life). Not that we don't have conservative homophobic politicians, but we do have San Francisco thank God! Can't wait to go home....

Default Clergy Group Aims to Block Gay Marriage Amendment

There is an interesting article in the New York Times today (May 22) on how clergy are now fighting the Gay Marriage Amendment that was passed in closed door session yesterday and will come up for a vote in June.

I'd be surprised if we aren't one of the last states to pass anything supporting same-sex marriage. It's practically the buckle of the Bible belt, with a predominant southern baptist influence.

I hope I'm wrong though. It's a sad thing when people are discriminated against so rashly.
