Unhappy Hello, My name is Steve
I'm Steve, I'm currently living in S.C. in the sticks in the Bible Belt and I hate it. I've never been so depressed in my life. I want to move back to Florida but due to family situation am unable. There are no openly Gay people here and they are all Bible thumpers... Suggestions?

Hi Steve,

My boyfriend lives not too far from you outside of Spartanburg. I would tell you all the wonderful things he has found in upper South Carolina, but he likewise has gotten fed up with the area. He is in the process of taking care of financial things and planning a move out to the sticks of Colorado. (We may be in the sticks here, but we are not in the Bible Belt. )

He also is weary of the fundamentalist attitude of the Bible Belt. He has found a welcome acceptance in church, but says the Episcopal church is sort of considered a "black sheep" in the area.

Wish I had a suggestion or two.

I'm sorry that I don't know much about the area, but I can offer you online support Its always hard to be around people without being able to fully be yourself. Just hang in there.

Hi Steve!

I'm in the same boat you are in. I'm in Virginia. The only suggestion I can give you is to try and reach out to other people online. I know from personal experience that it helps when you can find someone going through the same things you are. Also, it helps that I have a plan to get out of the town that I am in. Do you have a job? Can you save up money to move?

I can't believe that there are no gay people in SC. Have you tried Gay.com?
