From the Advocate:
Peter Sprigg of the Family Research Council said on Hardball With Chris Matthews Tuesday that the Lawrence v. Texas Supreme Court decision that struck down antisodomy laws was wrong and that gay behavior should be outlawed. "I think that the Supreme Court decision in Lawrence v. Texas which overturned the sodomy laws in this country was wrongly decided," said Sprigg. "I think there would be a place for criminal sanctions against homosexual behavior." "So we should outlaw gay behavior?" asked Matthews again. Yes,” said Sprigg. The entire Advocate article here ---->http://www.advocate.com/News/Daily_N..._Gay_Behavior/ In another interview, Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association said: "The bottom line here is that, biblically, those "who practice homosexuality" should come under the purview of the law just as much as those who take people captive in order to sell them into slavery. You express a belief in the Scriptures, and I trust your confidence in Scripture is not selective. If you believe all Scripture is inspired, then you are compelled to accept that legal sanctions may appropriately be applied to those who engage in homosexual behavior." Read article from USA Today here: http://content.usatoday.com/communit...mily-prayer-/1 So the truth of these so called "family" organizations comes out. They want to criminalize homosexuality. They want to jail those who have sex with members of their own gender and make all LGBT people criminals. These groups have taken "Christianity," "family," and "America" and dragged them through the mud of hate and bigotry. Rick

I think it is the duty of all of us to get out and by giving our testimonies as Homosexual beleivers educate the religious people of all relegions that we exist and we are not rapists or podophiles we are just normal people with a different sexual orientation , I think all these laws in the bible are for the rapists and child Molesters and because they did not know anything about Psychology of GLBT community in those days they also got included in this so we must go to relegious communities of all religions and educate them that there are a group of people with deep commitment to God who love him and worship him and at the same time their orientation and attraction is towards the same sex. I think this is the only way we can overcom this confusion and set the record straight.

Not to mention the Constitution and the seaparation of church and state. The Founding Fathers included the Bill of Rights at the end of the Constitution precisely to protect citizens of the United States from tyranny of the majority (or those who think they're the majority) over minorities.

I find it amusing that they figure accepting the whole bible means you should accept anti-gay interpretations. Yet they don't follow every precept of the bible themselves. Of course here, I'm preaching to the choir. I wish I could force everyone I know to read the pamphlet "What the bible does and doesn't say about homosexuality" in it's entirety. Alas, the best I can do is post it on facebook.

Ursus, this is what needs to be counteracted. A case in point is the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. Those cities were destroyed because of inhospitality and not homosexuality. Gennee

That's a point I wish that fundamentalists could understand. The idea that Sodom had anything to do with gay sex is completely outside conservative thought now, and only lies in fundamentalism now (which mistakenly believes that it is conservative). Ezekiel 16:49-50 lays out the sin of Sodom in black and white. When you bring this up to a fundie though they accuse you of being selective (or at least gotquestions.org did...grumble, grumble).

that Marshall Applewhite had a better grip on reality than this Peter Sprigg.
Interesting that Sprigg is so worried about hetero dudes getting treated like meat in the military, but consider the sexual harassment of women in the military by hetero male soldiers. Gay sex is against the military's laws, because it interferes with the mission, but hetero male soldiers can bang woman after woman and that's ok? Oh, the hypocrisy. And I might also ask Peter Sprigg what he thinks gives him the right to tell two men what they can and cannot do with their glo sticks in private. (I'm sure he wouldn't welcome a law dictating how he could use his, if he has one.)

Antiochian, I'm pretty sure that's the whole point. I think resistance to DADT repeal is proof that the system is SUPER flawed already. They know they aren't doing enough to protect women as is. If there were any kind of system in place to protect people from sexual harassment and abuses of power, this would be a total nonissue because there'd be a system in place.
If it's not good enough to keep legions of gay men from suddenly wanting to assault the straight men they've already been working alongside all this time, someone should be pointing out that it's probably not good enough to be protecting the women who are already legally serving either. |

And, another thing. A lot of the authors I read for my Theology paper explained that the only reference to homosexuality in Sodom and Gomorrah is attempted homosexual rape - a VAST contrast from relationships now.
However, it is true. None of subsequent references to Sodom reference homosexual acts. "The sins of Sodom described in the Old Testament include greed, injustice, inhospitality, excess wealth, indifference to the poor, and general wickedness (Rogers 71). Jesus' reference to the sin of Sodom in Luke 10.12 and Matthew 10.15 is part of his judgment on cities that refuse hospitality to his disciples." (From my paper)

You know I always thought these bizarrely homophobic groups only existed in shows like Queer As Folk where if you're not a homo, you're a homophobe. I always considered my town very homophobic, but never this outlandish. You kidding me? Homosexuality a crime? I mean it technically is in the State of VA, but no one gets arrested for it.

Dontcha know Redneck, those aren't sins? Fundamentalists don't have to follow that part of the Bible! They don't have to take everything literally. They can pick and choose too!
Hahahaha. It would be funny if these people weren't so incredibly ignorant and weren't hurting people. And yes, FRC is ridiculous. This will not stand, I can nearly guarantee you that. Homosexuality used to be outlawed, until intelligent people figured out, oh wait, they're not hurting anyone! They're expressing love in a different way! Since when is love wrong? People annoy me.
