Default Simple Gifts

My husband surprised me today with several bunches of fragrant purple lilac. Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring was on the radio, just getting to the part where the Shaker tune "Simple Gifts" begins. I looked into his face and smiled and the world righted itself.

'Tis the gift to be simple 'tis a gift to be free,
'Tis a gift to come down where you ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gained
To bow and to bend we shan't be ashamed
To turn, tun will be our delight
'Till by turning, turning we come round right.

Do you have a tale of your own to tell?

Lilacs are the most beautiful fragrance. The first whiff of lilacs defines Spring for me. We had lilacs lining the driveway on the farm. Heaven!

Awwww! That's delightful! You have a wonderful husband!!!!

Well, yesterday hubby took me to the and we came home with a new plush baby leopard. She's adorable.

And our third anniversary is Wednesday. Something tells me he's buying me jewelry. Since my guy is one of those types who buys for himself every little thing he wants the moment he decides he wants it, I usually get him ultra-practical gifts. (for his Bday he got underwear and socks). Last week we got into a conversation about gift-giving and he said "Women don't seem to know that men want romantic gifts too, not just socks."

So, I told him why he's hard to buy gifts for and he says he understands. That said, I went on a crusade last week to find him something as non-sock-like as possible. Hubby loves animals, especially carnivores, and he has a picture of a tyrannosaurus on his studio door at work. He LOVES T rexes.
Imagine my delight when I found a 3.5' plush T rex, open mouth full of teeth, bright turquoise T rex with fuschia spots. I bought it, and laughed for half an hour while I went to the mailbox store for a giant box to put him in. The box is so big no wrapping paper is wide enough to go round it, so 3 clashing strips of different paper are wrapped around it. Then hubby found the box hiding in the garage. When his face lit up I said, "Oh no, you're all excited! After our conversation last week, I don't want you to be disappointed when you see how practical it is. . ." And he said, "That's ok, it's the thought that counts." I'm sure he has NO idea what's in there!!!!!

Talking Hehehe!

ZERBIE, that's awesome!!!

I'm the romantic one of my pair and I think we're both happy with it. I pick random days, like today , to bring her home flowers, a card I doodled for her at work, a poem, or anything else that strikes me.

She does little surprises for me, too, though. Like today, she surprised me by showing up at my job for lunch. She's come up for lunch before, so it didn't bother anyone at my workplace, but it really brightened my day just to see her. Her hug before I went back to work was enough to keep me smiling until my shift ended.

I was getting ready to leave for Alabama Sunday (for work), my sweetie was driving me to the airport - I showed her my new book to read on the plane (Same Sex in the City - Zerbie, it's great - don't agree with everything but very entertaining!), anyway... getting off track...

I called her from my stopover in Denver and she asked if I saw what she put in my book - then I realized she was the one who put the picture of us in it, I'm using for a bookmark, it's one of my favorite pics of us together.

I haven't shown a horse in 2 years - I've barely ridden anything in 2 years, and my trainer let me show one of his horses in a class at a show in my hometown on Thursday morning. I've only ridden this horse 3 x before the class and haven't ridden at all otherwise in 3 years. I was a little nervous (about screwing up!)...but rode confidently into the arena, we were great together, it was actually one of my very best rides ever! AND, we came away with 2nd place out of about 7 or 8 other horses! AND AND, my girlfriends' parents were there to watch and they and everyone else watching me said we should have won it! It was awesome to be back in the show ring!!! What a wonderful incredible gift - my trainer and his wife are also some of my very best friends!

Default Romance, what's that?

I haven't been on the receiving end of a romantic gesture in...years. Gasp!

LOL - have to laugh because when I read through the posts - and see Mia's quote ("My lesbianism is an act of Christian charity. All those women out there praying for a man, and I'm giving them my share." ~Rita Mae Brown") -- I have to think -- THAT'S ME! I'm a woman praying for a man! Guess what I need is a lesbian LOL

I haven't met too many romantic men...my ex-fiance was...however...he was also romancing other women - so go figure

Mean while...I continue to pray for that man LOL!!

Hey, have you seen the video link BruceChrist posted? It was a video called "I wish I was a lesbian," & it was posted on one of the Hello my name is, threads. I forget whose. But it was only a few days ago - check it out! I bet you'd get a good belly laugh out of it.
