I have 2 bosses (principals, since I work in schools) I noticed that in the past week they've made several blunders. I am to be observed once a year, by either principal. It never happened, although one did say she would do it a few months ago. I feel that if I remind them, it's like saying "hey! do your job!" I think it's an insult, and so I don't say anything about it. I finally went to the principal who said she would do the observation and suggested that she have me sign the form and date it for the day of my chorus program (evidence that I'm doing my job.)
this same principal announced some staff changes today at an all-school assembly. However, 3 of those changes are not definite, because like me, those 3 teachers are furloughed and subject to reassignment anywhere in the school district. Officially, I don't have a job, and neither do these teachers. If they're saying they know their assignment already, then the rest of us who are furloughed (laid off) are entitled (by contract) to have that information as well. we use an internet-based grading system. I was entering grades yesterday and found that the system was locked. we had been told that the system would be open for entering grades until 11pm last night. my other principal decided to lock it down at 11am. I had to call and beg for another half hour to complete my grades. They're not earth-shattering problems, but they are preventable. ok. /rant how about your boss? (Jamie, you're exempt from answering this one!) |

As an adjunct professor- I am hired by contract- as long as I show up and do not sacrifice chickens in class I'm cool with them.
With my church job- that is more difficult. The senior pastor, who is an intern, is rather helpful and knowledgeable about church situations. The weird thing is that he is usually at church in the mornings and evenings and I tend to be at church in the afternoons, so we do not see each other that much. But the relationship is good. However, I also have the other church boss of the whole church. That is a more difficult line to walk, especially when I preach. For example, my last preaching effort in front of the whole church I brought up some ethical/political issues. Some liked what I said some did not- I was, however, quite nervous about this because a negative reaction could equal work issues. However, the church as a whole was supportive of my sermon even if they did not agree with everything I said. In general, the church has been rather supportive of me. |

An interesting piece on recent research that shows that gay men out perform the old boy system. Why? Read the piece and find out. Keltic: you've said a mouthful. If I say anything in print here about my own job at the opera I will certainly regret it! Suffice it to say that those who think they know don't. But this teaches us to either be better leaders ourselves or cultivate patience- at least I hope so- this kind of thing is maddening.

Does my boss screw up often?
I have my own business and am self employed. So, yes. Rick

Don't get me wrong, I love my boss - but...she either has too much on her plate or is a little on the disorganized side. Ok, she's super disorganized. Her desk - if you can pinpoint it's exact location in her office - is covered with notes, coffee cups, interoffice envelopes and PTO request slips. It's a mess! She tends to be a little on the spineless side as well, letting one employee in particular get away with a lot (like potty mouth stuff, being rude to patients, etc.)...the latest fiasco was when she neglected to invite the CEO of the hospital to a going away party for a very popular doctor who is moving away. Oops. She called our office last week asking if we were having a party for doctor so-and-so - you can imagine the look on the receptionists face when she had to explain that we already had the party...
