Default Hot hot hot

It was 88 at 9 am yesterday. At 5pm it was 99 with a heat index of 104. We finally broke down and got an ac unit. It sits in the living room window and we live in that room. We get up at 5am to feed the animals. I remember in the winter when we had 36 inches of snow and eejit people said "it's cold there's no such thing as global warming"

I make sun tea in a 2 gallon jar and drink it all day. We also hit the library where it's cool. How do y'all cope with the heat?

Yesterday in Central Park. It was 103%. And it's now 90% and will reach 100%. In a half-hour or so, the air conditioner is going on until late in the evening.

I've been thinking about Zerbie out in Arizona. This kind of heat is a daily ritual for her from late Spring until Fall. And in Baghdad I've read that it can be 110-120% all summer long.

Thinking of that keeps me cool!

Ugh. Couldn't sleep last night so now I"m falling asleep at work (which I'm pretty sure gets frowned upon; like, more than going on forum sites while working :P). Everyone remember to stay hydrated!

Default Global warming, or localized climate change?

Hi guys. Minneapolis is in the middle of the continent, which is supposed to be hot in summer, and cold in winter, but over the last few years, it seems to be moderating. There's no such thing as "Global Warming", except in an overall sense.

However, about 10 years back, the local Greens party had an energy saving idea. You could bring in any air conditioner, in any condition, and for $100 bucks they would replace it with a high efficiency, 8000 BTU Frigidaire window unit. So I got one, and I've been using it ever since.

With the load that I put on it, it'll probably last forever, and the computer is sitting right in front of it. (And I'm sitting right in front of IT; my mammy didn't raise any fools.)

Hey, Daniel, Phoenix heat is dry heat, and Zerbie is a Cool person

Peace, Love, and Go Soak Your Head, if it'll help cool ya off. Bruce Chris

Default And Alecto, on the Mpls-Chicago Aids Ride, they taught me how to do two things:

Drink Gatorade, and pee.

She is indeed very cool!

New York however is a hot and humid 99 and rising today.

Best climate is in San Diego (my other half grew up there). Never gets hot, never gets cold. Just right!

Default beat the heat

No one need die of overheating. If you have no ac and are overheated run a cool bath and soak while drinking gatorade. return from time to time to the bath to stay cool. Cows know to do this. Why are humans not this intelligent?

Swimming pools work, too. If you have one, use it! Or get a spray bottle full of water and spray yourself down (I've done this in summer car rides with no ac). It's been staying in the 80s in my neck of the woods. I don't like extremes of temperature on either end of the spectrum. Yet, I'd take heat over the -25 degrees it can drop to here in winter any day. Oh, and in case any one else is ignorant like me and needs reminding, wear sunscreen! I was out fishing a month or so ago (unprotected), and it didn't take me long to get a nasty burn on my legs, arms, neck, and face. Very painful, and peeling skin just isn't a sexy look.

A winning combination!

Sunscreen or a hat?

Yes. Swimming pools are wonderful.

And so is the ocean. I just returned from a South Carolina beach a few days ago. There are few things I find more refreshing on a hot summer day than an ocean wave crashing down on top of me. It's like someone throwing a cool bucket of water in my face.

In the summertime, a sweet piece of cold water melon cools me inside. But there's nothing so sweet as a gentle evening breeze caressing my skin as I rock on my front porch and listen to the distant rumble of an approaching July storm.

Sweet, sweet summertime. I love it.

July is dressed up and playing her tune

Summer breeze, makes me feel fine
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind."
