Caught this today at Andrew Sullivan's Daily Dish and wanted to share.
As many of you may know, the western suburbs of Chicago are notoriously white and conservative. Think Willow Creek. One guy raised in this area who refers to his former self as the "biggest Bible-banging homophobic kid you've ever met" has come a long way, indeed. And he's gone public! Check it out.

Marin has been discussed at length at Towleroad and elsewhere (Signorile comes to mind), the point being that, as much as Marin's stance is one of "I'm sorry," he is not on record as being fully embracing of gay people, their sexuality of their standing with God.
What's the deal? Hard to say. Until the man comes out (ha!) and is explicitly supportive of gay people, I'm keeping my hands in my lap- that is- holding off on the applause. There is a thread a Marin here on the forum already.... I started it...

He's not very specific about what he's sorry about. So, yeah: I'm nonplussed, and have heard that he may be using this stance as a way to in fact be disarming to gay people so that he can then preach to them about how they're going to hell.

Firstly, sorry Daniel...didn't see the other thread. Didn't mean to cut in!
Secondly, yeah, I posted about Marin because I thought it would be welcome news to many here -- if, for no other reason, only to show that hearts are capable of change and growth. However, the issue (surprise!) is deeper than that. If I may hazard yet another link, Andrew Sullivan has an ongoing back-and-forth on the topic over at his blog at The Atlantic, Daily Dish.

Thanks for the link. The first poster makes me sigh. What are we supposed to do? Give him (?) a medal for thinking it's ok for gay people to have equal rights while his stands there holding his nose because of our 'lifestyle'? - a pejorative use of the word if there ever was one? It's the same- I think - with Marin. He's just nicer. "Oh look everyone! See what a wonderful Christian I am to the gay people!" That's how he's coming across. Like one of those Pharisees who stands on the street corner and prays really loudly. Didn't JC have something to say about that? Should both be condemned? No. But let's not fool ourselves. What they are offering is NOT love. Their God doesn't love us. That's the way they see it apparently. And they want us to tolerate their niced-up intolerance? Now is the time for more non-violent resistance, not less.
