Default Where is the gay support for Bradley Manning

It saddens me to see how few LGBTs, and LGBT organizations, such as Soulforce have failed to support Bradley Manning, the courageous gay soldier who placed the lives of all of God's children before patriotism. Like Daniel Ellsberg brought to light the lies of the administration during the VN war, Bradley has done the same, but with much less support.

Patriotism can be a very dangerous thing, which more often than not leads to wars. When God looks at the world, S/he sees no boudaries between nations, S/he sees only that we are all God's children. My prayer is that LGBTs will soon comprehend how interrelated our oppressions are.

Post Doing Right In the Face of Wrong

I have been following Bradley's events for a while. You bring up a valid point. I'm a veteran myself and LGBT folks sometimes do not have a warm feeling towards the military. Bradley did the right thing and that's what he's been persecuted for. Maybe we ought to write to the LGBT organizes and tell them of their error. How may people have his courage?

Default Agreed

Kara,

First, I didn’t even know he was gay. Similar to Gennee, I’ve been following his story from the beginning and couldn’t be prouder of his efforts.

Your post seems to be more about the wiles of patriotism, though.

Countries are basically glorified “clubs” and “cliques,” too often competing for power.

Agreed, and I think many of us do, at least those of us who are activists. Perhaps you’re suggesting that as LGBT groups and organizations we should speak out against these injustices as well.

Pam’s House Blend, who appears to have now merged with Fire Dog Lake, did and still does an excellent job of this. I mostly see her posts on FB, and they very much include matters of injustice, LGBT and not.

Personally, as much as I’d like to take on these issues in addition to LGBT one’s, My passion is with LGBT injustices. Whether rebutting hatred or ignorance on a blog or writing articles for my own blog and Ex-Gay Watch, I can’t even keep up with the continued need for insight on this front.

(P.S. I’m pretty much hit and run these days over here at SF, so don’t take it personally if I don’t respond to any responses.)
