Default Miracle or Coincidence

When it comes down to a certain situation where some believe God has intervened in a positive way during a some sort of hardship, how can you be sure whether that positive change was because of God or a coincidence. For instance: Sam has cancer. His family prayed that he would get better. The next day Sam showed signs of improvement.

In my opinion theres is no way of knowing this, but I'm just curious to here your position.

If one is around someone who is sick often enough, one observes bad days and good days. Does that make for a miracle or just the variance of human nature? Whatever the case, my sense is that kindness shown towards the suffering of others is never wasted.

I see the distinction as irrelevant. If you're a person of faith, then everything is a miracle. Or it should be. If you believe in an all powerful yet personal and loving God, then everything is the will of God for whatever reason. And if you don't, then an infinite universe provides enough time and space for even the most improbable of things to happen sometimes, and it doesn't have to mean anything. I like the idea that we get to choose. Personally, I strive for a balance between seeing the meaning in certain events and letting my interpretation of that meaning rule my life and sway my major decisions or change the way I treat people.

I just think there is really no way of knowing, however if you are a follower in almost any faith, you may perceive certain situations to be caused by a higher power.
