Big Love

Has anyone been keeping up with the HBO series, "Big Love"? I just watched the episode where Albie's gay lover was outed to his wife and Albie's wife (one of the many in his polygamist cult, Juniper Creek). Anyway, Albie's sister is one of the wives of Bill Henrickson, who stays in conflict with the compound at Juniper Creek where his parents live, and one of his wives is from. Bill confronts Albie's lover and the last scene is where Albie goes to the apartment he got so the two of them could continue their tryst, while still maintaining the front of a "faithful" polygamist. His lover is a regular Mormon, who has been in and out of ex-gay therapy, complete with electroshock therapy, drugs, Pavlovian conditioning and such. When Bill confronts him, he is distraught. He is afraid Bill will ruin him. Anyway, as Albie opens the door with a dozen roses, he finds his lover hanging from the ceiling by his belt. The next scene shows Albie grabbing his legs and sobbing.

It is a tragedy when one's religion is so toxic that it prevents a person from loving someone else, regardless of the gender of that person. Tragic but it still happens everyday across our nation and until it changes, so many more senseless tragedies will occur.

The ~saddest~ part, to me, are these things... and the churches don't even recognize them as, if anything is, "tools of Satan"... the very sorts of things that destroy ones Free Will and cognitive ability to make Choices for ones own self.
