Default Obama & Biden Say Gay Marriage is Okay!

This past Sunday on Meet the Press, Vice-President Joe Biden said he was "comfortable" with same-sex marriage. Today, the news came out that President Barack Obama backed up his VP on this. Woo-hoo!

Obama said that his views were "evolving" in part because of the influence of his daughters. They have some friends who have same-sex parents.

Up here in Canada, same-sex marriage has been legal for a few years. I've been hoping that America would follow our example. Now there's hope. I am so delighted. "What we desire for ourselves, we wish for all."

I tried posting a link to a Canadian news site, but it didn't work. So if anyone out there can post links to American sites covering this news, that would be much appreciated.

Best wishes to all the terrific gay and lesbian folks in the U.S.A.!

Default Follow THrough

There's hope but we need to see that the president and vp will follow through on their statements of acceptance.

Default I'm cautiously optimistic.

As I understand it, marriage is a state responsibility. But maybe Washington can repeal DOMA.

In Canada, "gay rights" aren't protected under the Charter of Rights in the Constitution. But the Supreme Court made a ruling that basically said discrimination is discrimination. Maybe courts in the U.S. will make similar rulings.

I remember Proposition 8. And wasn't there some kind of ballot initiative on same-sex marriage in North Carolina? That's just wrong. It's basically taking away rights by popular vote. If that was okay, there would still be segretation in the Deep South.
