![]() Taking a moment to wish forumites a happy Thanksgiving. One of the (many!) things I am grateful for is this new forum. It is already being of tremendous help to me. . .despite being raised away from church (or perhaps because of that) I have a lot of negative associations with organized religion, and y'all are already doing SO MUCH to dispel that. So to all of you, heartfelt thanks. I wish you all happiness and peace. Fondly, Zerbie

I went to my first ever Thanksgiving dinner last night, at the girls' club we run at our church, with the turkey, the mashed potatoes, the pumpkin pie - even Hershey's kisses! The leader is from the States so they do this every year. I have to say I really like Thanksgiving as a holiday, it's a lovely idea. I made the pumpkin pie, which was an adventure as I've never even eaten one before, much less tried to make it! We also played "pin the feather on the turkey" - a somewhat easier version of "pin the tail on the donkey", with the one unforeseen disadvantage being that you can't judge who the winner is, as turkeys have feathers all over them!
I'm thankful for a lot of things. One of the things that springs to mind is the opportunity to be involved in the club. Ours is a very rough area with a lot of problems, but these girls are the most amazing characters and it's a real honour to work with them. |
