Default Hello, from Australia

Hi kind people here,

I came across this site at a most opportune time, as we have indeed taken a bashing this week with all the brouhaha around gay marriage, and my soul is feeling a bit bruised. How nice to then find this site and its commitment to peace, and this forum with all you wise souls offering welcome.

The day the US threw the DOMA out again, my own government here in Australia announced it would overturn one of our state's recent legislation to allow civil registration for same sex couples. As you can well imagine, the ensuing media coverage brought out all the nastys, and I've read some pretty cruel things this week (hence the bruised soul bit). But then I guess I also read some nice things too, from the silent majority with their creed to "live and let live".

So thanks for all the nice things you've all written to each other in your posts, they've made me feel a bit better, and I look forward to hanging around here with you all for a bit.

Welcome, Nowvoyager!

What a beautiful screenname and avatar!!!

I too hope you will come back and join the conversations.

I did *not* know that Australia overturned recognition for same-sex couples this week. That is sad news indeed. I'm sorry to hear about the bruised feelings, but it would be difficult to feel otherwise I'm sure.

Come back and chat some more.
We're happy to have you here.

Really a great screen name!! Bette Davis was so beautiful in that movie! First with her big bushy eyebrows and dowdy hair and sensible shoes...then, wow! what a tranformation! When she lifts her head and that glorious face appears under the brim of her stylish new hat.... Ohhh... Welcome, welcome! Thanks for sailing with us!

I'm sorry.

Glad to hear we've given you even a little solace.

Wow, thank you all for your kind welcome. You're all very sweet.

Yes, I love candles, and also this Bette movie, I think it's a great telling of the age old ugly duckling turned beautiful swan story, and then reaching back to help someone else. And Bette does it so well! A great metaphor of the coming out thing? If you haven't seen it you should rush right out and rent it

Default Hello me too

Hello man,
Im from Australia and am still in school at a Catholic institution in Victoria! This week i told my friends that i am gay, two of my closest friends abandoned me and called me evil and sinful and that they couldn't be friends with me as long as i continue to make this choice, so having been spiritually damaged this site has helped me regain some of my sense of self worth, thankyou all here at soulforce, thankyou for my life as it continues and may gods grace continue to bless you all! Glenn

Default Gday Victorian!

Oh Set! Man I've been there too, I grew up in rural Victoria, and I think I have an inkling of what you're going through. Like Zerbie, I'm sorry that your friends rejected you. Its a bloody shame they let their prejudice override their caring for you, at least for now, and in public.
I hope its ok that I have PMd you with some resources in case you don't know of some support groups in the Shepparton area. You're not alone. Maybe you can give them a quiet call..
Isn't this site great, I too have been spiritually refreshed by the lovely people here, especially as it's been a difficult week to be LGBT in Australia.
Oh - and by the by, glad to meet a fellow Australian here in the forum Bless you too, petal.

Oh. that says a lot. Some people react VERY negatively to finding out that an ex is gay, because they feel on some level that it reflects on them, their attractiveness and so forth. I had a very good girl friend whose ex-fiance came out as gay. She had always been homophobic, but when she heard that she went off the deep end. In some quieter moments she used to ask me if she had done something so wrong it turned him away from women completely. She simply didn't get that it had nothing to do with their relationship or her desireability. Sorry you have run into something similar.
