Default So, rather more "bye" than "hi"

Jennifer! Have a wonderful trip! Enjoy NY (city or upstate?)

And let us know how your visit went once you're back.

We'll miss you.

Safe?

Don't listen to Emproph my dear, NYC is the most happenin' and fabulous place on the planet. In fact, there are those of us who live here who think it's the center of civilization! (We do have a problem figuring out what to do with all the trash though.)

Brooklyn? I'll be across the East river in Manhattan. If you'd like to say hello: pm me. Would be happy to play tour guide for a few hours.

Thanks everyone...

wish I could take you up on that Daniel... and in the years to come, when I don't have my brother and sister, I will. Just don't think that will work this time though

Jennifer - late, but hope you had fun - are you back yet?! Tell us all about it!

I may get to NYC August/September for work - really excited! Never been to NY. We only get evenings to play but thinking of working in a weekend too for some sightseeing opportunities. It would be awesome to see a play! And of course a fabulous dinner or two!

tdogg: I hope you get there. It is an amazing place. I took my daughter there in December for a bus trip, Radio City Christmas show, shopping- her first time, she loved it! Hope to make it this year as well. Jen, if you are back, let us know how your trip was- I'm sure it was awesome!!

Thanks all, I had a great time!!! I'm SO TIRED...

Tdogg... if you get to NY try to go in September... not August.... August will be so hot.

Anyway... I had a great time... did so many things... it was a blast....

Daniel... I don't know how anyone can afford to live in NY much less Manhattan... good for you if you can pull that off

Thanks for the tip Jen - I'll mention it to my coworkers!

Vanessa - I'm going to definitely get myself included on that trip! And hopefully include a weekend. I know I'll love NYC, but not sure how much sleep I'll get since we only have evenings to venture out - won't matter, i can catch up back home! Can't wait! I bet it's gorgeous in the winter with the snow??

Ok, so September it will be!!

Hey, welcome back Mzzz Jen!!!!!!

Glad you had a good time - now go take a nap.

Speakin' of travel, hubby & I will be heading your way shortly - we fly to Seattle Sunday, then will visit Vancouver, and Portland. Bounce around a bit. Hubby is big on vacations. Neither of us has ever been near that area before, so if you have tips on what to pack and what major sights we need to see and which we can afford to miss, spill!

Hubby said we could expect rain. I was like, "What's rain?" (We've had a dry year, even for the Mojave desert.)

rain... maybe it's not to bad by this point. The space needle is great... and they have pretty good food too... and you should check out Pikes place market. I guess those are the big ones. You'll love the area.... just for the fun of it take the ferry across to Bainbridge and back... the whole area is beautiful!

Have a great time Z!! I would love to visit Seattle someday - well actually other more birdwatching-friendly places, but Seattle too.

yeah, take your rain gear if you have any!

Thanks ladies!

Rain gear! I haven't seen an umbrella in at least 3 years. No one needs umbrellas. There is no such thing as rain. Here, we have a river that never has water in it. The Rio Salado. Well, there's water a couple days a year in it. Other than that, it's always a dry ravine full of dust. There's a funny story about it and some German POWs. . . .

We might have an umbrella buried somewhere, if so, it's getting packed. I am having to sit here in 107 F degrees and think of packing a jacket in case it gets cold, or wet AND cold. Someone told me it was 68 degrees in Seattle the other night and I said, "Oooh! Winter!!!"

Pike's Place - hmm that sounds familiar, that might be one of the things hubby planned on visiting? I know we will be riding ferries, more than one I believe. I will see if one of them is Bainbridge. He planned the itinerary and I just kinda go along, but I think what's happening is we are going immediately to Vancouver for a couple days, see the aquarium there and stuff. Then, something about Portland, and something about ferries, glaciers, lakes. I dunno, I'll letcha know when it happens!

if you want go to any aquarium.... I think it's Newport... in Oregon.. definately the best! But anyway... the whole area is beautiful, you'll love it!

Don't worry about that umbrella garbage... IF it rains when your here you'll look very out of place with an umbrella... enjoy the rain if you lucky enough to get any this time of year... it's nature... love it or leave it

Jennifer- glad you had a great time. Yeah. NYC is pretty expensive- that's for sure. Real Estate has gone through the roof. I keep hearing that the other two places that are just as expensive are San Francisco and Tokyo. We're very blessed to live here- that's for sure. Everytime I go somewhere and return I realize how much I miss the place. It really gets under your skin.

There is one good thing about being here in August despite the heat: you have the place to yourself. It's practically deserted. Parking spaces everwhere. Elbow room at the Met Museum and in the subway. Not as bad as you'd think. And one can always drive out (or take the train) to Long Island and jump in the ocean.

Yeah, I guess that's true.

We ended up at Coney Island 2 of the days!!! That was loads of fun!!! Swimming in Jeans and a T-Shirt is kind of hard though..

How big of a place to you have... I bet the apartments are nicer in Manhattan.. I only saw the apartments in Brooklyn.

Can you believe you've done something I've yet to do in all these years living in NYC? See Coney Island! lol!!!!!

On apt size: you can get much bigger places in Brooklyn...you'd be surprised. Manhattan is very expensive and the apartments can be small. The average price for a one bedroom here is over 400K. It would be hard to find a studio for less than 300. Rent for a studio is around $1200-1400.

One of the strange and interesting things about conversations in NYC is how they always wind around to real estate!

We live in a one-bedroom in a brownstone that was built in 1895. My partner has lived here for over 32 years.
